The weather really favored us on this visit. The theme at the museum was the lakes and life on the lakes with a focus on the Alexandria MN area. I learned the city has a history of being a resort town. There was an exhibit about " Out of this World" that feature boats and space age design during the time of the Cold war space race. It was a great theme and myself and my mom loved looking at all the different boats. There was also a backyard outdoors area near the lake. It had a bridge over a brook, a band shell and just a lovely landscape. We enjoyed walking around and sitting at the gazebo with a nice view of the lake. This museum was near downtown and the Big Ole statue. It was fun to visit had a nice gift store too.

What a great place to stop at, this is not far from the interstate and is well worth the stop. It has a collection of antique, beautiful & wacky watercraft and all sorts of other memorabilia, motors and history related to the many lakes in Minnesota. In the backyard of the museum there is a meditation flower garden, with a stage, gazebo and benches! You can take a stroll about and relax for a while before continuing your trip. We enjoyed it was fun, informative, fun and relaxing.

What a pleasant surprise this museum is! The size and quality of their collection is impressive, and includes some really unique watercraft that I’ve never seen before. We visited with 2 kids, age 5 & 7 who also enjoyed looking at everything and had fun doing the scavenger hunt! The gardens at the back of the museum are also really lovely and immaculately kept.

Most of the people I know with boats have more-or-less the same multipurpose fiberglass boat with an outboard motor, so I've never given much thought to boats. Sure, I've seen other styles in movies, but I hadn't seen them up close, so I never gave them much thought. Now that I have experienced this museum of amazing boats, it's as if my eyes are opened up to the possibilities of what boats can be and why someone might be excited about them. This museum has changed the way that I think about boats, which makes this an...
