Pitkin County Library — Attraction in Aspen

When I was a kid in the 50s, the most exciting thing about the library was actually the bookmobile that drove the neighborhood, letting you check out books right in front of your house. Today libraries, like it or not, have become the center of the community. Books are like the second or third reason to go there. The Pitkin County Library in downtown core Aspen is a treasure. They often give out free books! But the real reason to show up is the wealth of programming. Yesterday, for example, there was FREE live music and the most delicious soup offerings in a celebration of Library Month in the oft-used community room. During the summer when the Aspen Music School and Festival is in town, there are FREE classical music concerts every Monday and Friday. I love that they have a banned book meeting the last Tuesday of every month! Want to play Dungeons and Dragons? Play at the library. Into crafting? Join the craft circle. This being Aspen, there are even bike maintenance seminars. Trivia nights.There are even programs for toddlers. I love the historic building the library inhabits. A great library with a solid selection of a books and resources. One of the things that stood out to me is their 3D printer. They even host classes on how to use the machine. You're also able to download several magazines to your phone with a partnering company, you just need to download the app and use your library card to sign in. The library has 3 stories and plenty of working space. There is also a cafe and large community meeting room.
