A great place to stop and learn about the history of Astoria and Clatsop County.

The exhibits will take you from the early days of the Native American tribes to the fur trading outposts and the arrival of emigrants to help develop logging and fishing industries.

You will see a replica of a cedar plank house and a fur take trading outpost with a number of artifacts.

A number of other exhibits include the great fire of 1922, the dark side of early Astoria, and the development of the grocery store industry.

Located in the old city hall on Exchange Street and a couple blocks from the Columbia River Martime Museum.

One of the great local museums of a very historic region that was the center of fur trading, logging, and fishing with...

When I arrived the volunteer / employee informed me that I only had 45 minutes to see everything. I said that wouldn't be a problem. I heard her cashing out the register while I looked around. While I was upstairs in one room, the woman came up and turned out the lights in different rooms so that I could not view them and I still had at least 15 minutes to look around. As I left I mentioned that she must really want to leave at 4. Her response was "today I do." Her attitude was horrible. She treated me as if I was nothing more than a huge inconvenience and irritation to her. I hope they can find more friendly help soon. That can really impact a person's impression of the place they are visiting. I give her a 0 and...

I was impressed with the Heritage Museum. I had been wanting to visit for at least two of my my previous trips to and through Astoria. While it may be overshadowed by the larger maritime museum close by, it’s well worth the time to visit this museum which I found to be full of local history. The building itself is a piece of Astoria history which I won’t spoil here. There is a rotating exhibit on the second floor which changes from time to time so I have reason to stop by again and plan to. A bonus is that it is a short walk from the Bowpicker Fish and Chips which I...

Great place to stop and visit. Has a lot of cool old history displayed and taught. Learned things about Astoria I would of never guessed or imagined and the lady at the front counter was very welcoming and sweet. She offered her knowledge of Astoria while we paid for the tickets and it was overall just a true delight. Only going to share one picture because really you should go see it for yourself.
