Thank you for knowing what vegetarian and vegan food is capable of! I am so tired of veggie burgers being the only option for us veg heads. For those of you meat eaters out there, you should give this place a try too because they make some tasty foodz even without moo or the oink and have a friendly staff. Other people seem to agree, as their outdoor seating was full. We called in our order ahead of time and took out food to go and walked two blocks to the pier to eat and watch the seals. Perfect combo. I could have eaten myself into a seal shaped bod with all their treats if only I had known before ordering how much I was going to like it. We had the tempeh rueben (love me some tempeh!!) and the breakfast burrito for our main course. They were both yummy and very filling. My rueben had great, seemingly housemade sauce and sauerkraut. We asked for a side of hot sauce which it also seems they makes themselves. We bought two pasties, I mean pastries, and now I am dreaming of them and kicking myself for not buying more! We had the cardamom cinnamon roll and the sour cream coffee cake with strawberry goodness on the inside. Fluffy with unique flavors. Their loaves of bread looked amazing and my sandwich rye was something to remember. It was tasty, healthier, brunch food and that is coming from me, a picky eater...
Read moreHad lunch there for the first time the other day with my wife and 2 friends. Everyone enjoyed the food. BUT, there was one major problem: The Tip (aka gratuity). You begin the process of standing at the counter and ordering your food and if you pay by credit card you are asked (via the card console) at the beginning of the dinning process, for the amount of tip you want to pay for the service you have yet to receive. Then you go find yourself a table, go to the island and get your silverware and cloth napkin. If you want some water, you go to the island, get a glass and fill it with water. Your meal is brought to the table for you. When you are finished, you must bus your own dishes and put them in a tray under the island. Now, the paying of a tip is meant as a thank you for the service provided. Where in any of the above description is there any indication of service being provided? Rather than the restaurant asking for a tip at the beginning of the process and providing absolutely no service, the management should just jump their high prices by 15 - 20% more. My suggestion: If paying by credit card, indicate no tip. And then at the end of the dinning process, if a tip for service is warranted, leave some cash with the dishes at the table. This is not a place I will return to or recommend...
Read moreWhen my wife & I decided to stay in Astoria for a weekend staycation, we were recommended this place from a friend, because we are gluten free and this cafe had gf options. We were stoked to see what they had, and the first time we grabbed a couple treats here, it was pretty simple and straightforward since we bought a few items from the bakery case. However, when we stopped here on our way out to grab some brunch to go, we were pretty disappointed in the service. We had called ahead to give us enough time to account for driving there to pick up as we headed home. When I got there, I paid, and a couple behind me ordered and paid for their walk-in order. I ended up waiting for 45 minutes for my food, and received it after the customers that ordered when they walked in right after me. When I brought my food out to the car to eat it with my wife before we headed home, the breakfast sandwiches were cold, like they were just sitting there the whole time and were forgotten. For nearly $8 per egg sandwich, I felt like that was pretty unprofessional and was disappointed in the service received. The food here is good, but their seems to be a disconnect with how much they’re charging, and the service...
