I had the most delightful experience at this charming Scandinavian eatery! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff, who made me feel right at home. The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, with a perfect blend of modern and traditional touches that transport you to Scandinavia. The food was absolutely exquisite—each dish was crafted with such care and attention to detail. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the menu offered a fantastic variety, from traditional Nordic fare to inventive twists on classic dishes. The drink selection was just as impressive, with expertly curated options that complemented the food perfectly. What really stood out, though, was the incredible service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my dining experience was nothing short of perfect, offering thoughtful recommendations and checking in regularly to make sure everything was just right. This eatery is a gem, and I can’t wait to return. If you're looking for fantastic food, wonderful drinks, and a truly memorable dining experience, this place is an absolute must-visit!

This place is a gem for breakfast lovers! We had the Benedict, which was a classic done right—with a surprising twist: a touch of mustard that added a bold, memorable flavor. The potato pancakes were another highlight. They came topped with a fruit jam, which we weren’t expecting, but it worked beautifully and added a unique, delicious contrast. Don’t expect your typical pancakes here—these are a bit different, as you can see in the photos, but absolutely worth trying. They serve Coava coffee, and we ordered both a standard latte and a vanilla latte. Unfortunately, we requested the vanilla to be half sweet, but it tasted overly sugary, almost like they doubled the syrup instead. That was a bit of a letdown. That said, the service more than made up for it—our servers were warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. All in all, a great little spot that’s definitely worth a visit if you're in Astoria!

I worked my morning schedule around just to try this place. Sampled a few specialty dishes. Wow, extremely let down as I was the only diner that whole hour of morning breakfast and my food came out extremely cold. The pancakes were cold and as if they have been premade for hours. The eggs were lukewarm. The worst was the sweet lefse pancake. Completely cold and hard and I couldn’t even use my knife to cut the pancake 🤨. It’s counter service so no one checked in on how the food was after they brought out the dishes. The whole time, I could hear the staff went on and on about another staff’s surgery and the kitchen bell ran for a good 10-15min before they brought my food out. I recommend better attention to the food you guys serve and keep your personal conversations down next time. I enjoyed the decor and modern / Scandy design. A review w/ intention for you guys to improve.

My review of a new Scandinavian breakfast/coffee restaurant

5+ out of 5 stars ⭐️

I had the most wonderfully delicious experience at Broder Strand!!

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the biggest smiles 😃 and stylish modernized decor - it felt like a slice of Scandinavian chic right in the heart of downtown Astoria. I was really impressed by the selection of coffee drinks poured into glass mugs. When I went to pour my cup the jug was empty but within seconds the gentleman servicing the restaurant had a new fresh pot ready for me. The coffee was perfectly brewed and they gave me the bottle of honey to pour in it, at my discretion!

I got two breakfast dishes; one sweet and one savory. The 4-piece “Aebleskiver” (Danish pancakes) were served with a side of strawberry compote and lingonberry jam… Wow! ($9.00) You should have seen my face as I alternated each bite going from jam to compote and back. My second dish was the “Lefse” (sorta like thin crepes) stuffed with ham, Jarlsberg cheese spread & carmelized onions. That plate was paired with house mustard, yellow pickled beets & chives, then topped with two soft eggs… I had to close my eyes as it was love ❤️ at first bite! ($16.00)

My tastebuds were so grateful to get the chance to eat these authentically prepared Scandinavian meals.

The service was very friendly and attentive, and the whole place had a cozy vibe. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur, a foodie, or just looking for a stylish spot to meet friends, Broder Strand is a must-visit. I can't wait to go back!

Compliments to the Chef 🧑‍🍳 and Sous Chef!

Highlights: Authentic Scandinavian decor/food Super friendly and attentive gentleman staff Extensive coffee ☕️ and aquavit drink menu Glass mugs! Quick kitchen to table service Ample seating

Recommendations: Aebleskiver (Danish pancakes 🥞 ) Lefse (savory ingredient filled crepes) Eggs 🍳 Benedict Hash Drip coffee w/cinnamon and honey 🍯

Will I return? Already planning a visit next week to try the Eggs Benedict (I saw it being served and my eyes almost popped out their sockets…beautiful plating!)

Located at the corner of 14th street and commercial street.

Hours of operation: Sunday 8 AM–3 PM Monday 8 AM–3 PM Tuesday Closed Wednesday 8 AM–3 PM Thursday 8 AM–3 PM Friday 8 AM–3...

While visiting this restaurant about a week ago, I had an experience that left me a bit dumbfounded. For context, this restaurant is a counter/partial service dining establishment. As we were waiting on our food, a server brought out our dishes to the another table (who ordered after us), walked away, realized that they had given the wrong table our food, picked up the dishes because the table swore “they didn’t touch it”, and brought it right over to us. I should have said something in the moment but me, and my friends, were genuinely stunned as we have all worked in the service industry for 10+ years and all know this is big sign of concern. In my state and experience, as soon as a plate touches a table/leaves a servers hand, it is a health code violation to give that food to another customer. The server did not have eyes on the plate for a solid 2-3min and had no way of knowing if the other customers touched, sneezed, coughed, etc onto our food. The nonchalance and lack of panic in the servers demeanor led me to believe that this kind of behavior is normal. I am really not one to leave reviews, especially in relation to service related issues, but since returning home I have told this story to my coworkers and their similar level of appalment made me feel like I should make my experience known to other customers that are interested in dining here. I also had emailed the restaurant before writing this review, but they did not respond. We were all a little disappointed with the food as well, it was just a bit lacking and needed to be seasoned better, especially for the high price. The vibe was cute, but these kind of food safety issues need to be addressed...

This is a very charming old bistro/cafe attached to a hotel with great old sea town charm to it. I went on a Sunday morning and was greeted by a very friendly host behind the counter who was very eager to help us. I wasnt aware this was one of those eateries that you pre order everything up front & pre pay including the tip. The machine asks you up front 15% 18% or 20% or custom tip. So without having experienced any service yet, its akward to me what i should choose and based off the nice interaction we had with the host, i chose 18% which was $15 for our meals. Your given a table marker, grab your own water & seat your selves. The reason for my "average rating" was we had no interaction whatsoever with any staff. Just food runners asking who gets what. Since i had a side plate of 4 strips of bacon, there was an extra plate on my table which no one took notice to clear away. Also the empty mimosa & expresso glasses. All the tables are on the smaller side so with an extra plate in the way and no one checking on us, i was a little disappointed. None of the runners who came after the first asked if we needed anything either. One a side note, the mens bathroom had no paper towels to dry your hands. But the food was great & alot of patrons seemed happy, lots of families. Great place to take mum & dad or a friend. But for me its a no to...
