Catholic? The Catholic church is universal. Noone is allowed to change parts of the mass to suit their own whims and desires. That would dilute and change the meaning of each centuries old piece of the mass. Some of the responses date back to the apostles. At this mass all eight persons on the altar, Extraordinary ministers of the eucharist, lectors and i think the altar boy also, were given bread to elevate during the consecration. ???? Please someone explain to this parish that Catholics believe the priest, who is in persona Christi during mass, is the only individual who can consecrate the host.
"The Code of Canon Law is clear on this matter, stating: “The only minister who, in the person of Christ, can bring into being the sacrament of the Eucharist, is a validly ordained priest” (canon, no. 900; cf. CCC, nos. 1337-44). The Catechism of the Catholic Churchdoes state that the Eucharist is “the sacrifice of the Church,” in which “the sacrifice of Christ also becomes the sacrifice of the members of His body” (CCC, no. 1368), yet it states further that “the Eucharist is offered through the priests’ hands in the name of the whole Church” (CCC no 1369)"

The Shrine has been a home for me that I did not know I was looking for. It has comforted me more than I thought was possible. It brings me deeper in my faith and closer to my fellow Christians.
As a Bisexual Catholic I am told that I can’t have both and have to choose one: my faith or my love. The Shrine instead tells me that my love stems from my faith. My faith is love and therefore my love is not shameful. Something I’ve never heard before.
From the song “You are Welcome Here” that they have played ever mass I’ve gone to, to the way everyone just lights up upon seeing you- even if you don’t know them- you know that you are welcome there. More than that, you are wanted there.
I have never found a place that made me feel closer to Heaven and God’s love...
Read moreNever will you feel more at home than at The Shrine. This parish is by far the most accepting, loving, and serving churches in Atlanta. With their unyielding mission to serve the poor, it’s no wonder that the spirit of Christ fills you as you walk through the doors.
The building is not only a historic landmark downtown, but a beacon to all those lost and looking for a church community. I’ve attended many masses across the United States and none have come close to the wonder and beauty of The Shrine.
A true blessing for the Atlanta community. Consider attending a mass, joining the parish, or even visiting The Shrine at some point in your life, you won’t regret it.
All are truly welcome...
