I came at 3 am with a few hours to kill before a morning appointment. Not much is open downtown at night, and this looked like the only option. The original Landmark was great, so I thought I would try this.
It was not busy, and I was seated. I ordered a coke when the server came over. The server had a blank expression on his face the entire time and didn't say anything really. Less than a minute later, he returned and wanted my card to start a tab. This was fine. I understand restaurants have to worry about people leaving and not paying.
He immediately reappears after returning my card, and now I feel rushed. I like to enjoy my drink and relax for 10 or 15 minutes before I order. It should have been obvious I wasn't ready to order because I was busy on my phone. There was a sign right beside me that said there was a 2-hour seating limit, so I don't know what the rush was. Most of the seats were empty anyway.
I said I would start with some fries and went back to my business on my phone. I had not looked at the menu yet.
After receiving my fries and finishing 3/4 of them, and having one refill, he appears again. I assumed he would give me another refill because my glass was empty, but he put the bill down and walked away.
I had plainly said, "I was starting with fries," so thus I would be ordering more.
Instead of having him run back and forth, I was over it and just signed the tab and left.
I worked in the industry for 20 years, so I tip well, but rushing me... not so much.
Note: I let the people at the counter know I felt rushed and was going elsewhere to eat.
A 'Diner' to me is laid-back and relaxed, not rushing you out the door. They lost the possibility of a $40+ tab (I was planning to order a salad and a cheeseburger and maybe a dessert), and he lost a great tip.
I must note the food is somewhat overpriced for the quality and quantity you receive.
I had to walk 1.5 miles to find anything else open, but it was worth it. I was able to relax and have a decent meal.
Unfortunately, good service and availability of restaurants at night have pretty much vanished in...
Read moreWent here at 2am the other day because we weren't feeling Waffle House and wanted something more substantial. It was slightly grungy inside, but nothing terrible enough to put us off eating there, and about on par with every other diner. The food was amazing, although my order came out mildly incorrect, it was not bad enough to send it back to the kitchen or order something different instead, so I still ate and it was excellent.
The wait time though, was longer than expected for a server to even come take our drink orders, and it took again almost as long to actually get them, and when we finally got to order, it again took what seemed like an excessive amount of time based on what we'd ordered.
When we were done eating and were finally able to get our waiters attention to come back so we could ask for the check, he messed up running the card and ended up soft locking it, but he came back to the table telling us that it had only given a partial payment. Luckily I had an alternative card that worked. The next time I used my bank card I discovered the error with my account and called my bank. Bank customer service explained that he had never tried to charge the full amount of the check, and the split payment had flagged the charge as fraudulent.
Not sure if this was a genuine mistake or something else, but I would have preferred the waiter to have said something up front if it was an accident/genuine mistake and I could have called my bank immediately and not needed to use a different account I wasn't wanting to use.
All in all, the food is excellent, but the wait staff needs some help with just about everything, at least the overnight shift does. I'd go back, and I wouldn't recommend anyone avoid the place, but I won't be back...
Read moreThis place was not busy at all when I went around 2-3 am. Ok, the service here was trash..they have you pay up front..I don't know how you can mess up grits, but they were not good, no butter, and were not as warm as should have been for grits .. they brought me dry toast. I shouldn't have had to ask for butter to be brought to me with this meal...ugh. Heck, the toast was too cold for butter to be spread on the toast by that time. I have had better food in worse holes in the walls 🙄. I was seated in front of the "host desk" with only 1 booth behind me, and I had to get up and ask where my waiter was because I had been looking around for a min at my table. He stated he doesn't know who my waiter was... really?? I was sitting in front of this guy and again there where very few patrons in there and as I started to describe him I saw him over by the dessert counter. I then proceeded to go ask him for the butter when the Georgia State University police officer who was behind the host desk area jaw jacking with the host, then told me that I couldn't go over to him which was in a common area of the restaurant in front of the dessert counter and said for me to return to my table and wait for the waiter to come over. Puzzled and baffled by this because it wasn't like he was in the kitchen, but in a common area which i walked through earlier to look at desserts!! I returned to my seat. Then still had to get the waiter's attention to request the butter. Also, the bathroom in this place smelled.
The staff was not welcoming at all here and the GSU officer didn't help the situation either.
I would not eat here again and certainly wouldn't recommend especially for the prices they charging for this less than...
