Came in with a party of four and had an absolute blast. We did an all day marathon of rooms, starting with The Depths and working our way through Timeliner, Prison Break, and Cosmic Crisis.
One thing every room does well is incentivizing cooperation between the party, there are multiple puzzles in nearly every game that will have the whole team coordinating across rooms to solve something. The puzzles are fairly intuitive and even the most difficult ones make sense once you understand them, no encyclopedic prior knowledge necessary. The set dressing and environments are also excellent, and every room has a unique immersive atmosphere. Personally, Timeliner was my favorite in terms of environment.
In terms of difficulty, the rooms have a rating system ranging from 7 to 9 out of 10. It goes Prison Break (9/10), Timeliner (8/10), and Depths and Cosmic Crisis are both 7/10 however I would put Depths above Cosmic Crisis in terms of difficulty, Depths was definitely more challenging at times than Cosmic. Both 7/10 rooms were enjoyable to a party of adults, but I do think if you plan to come with younger children these rooms will have more approachable elements for them. Timeliner is pretty friendly too but its definitely more complex than Depths. Prison break has a few puzzles I think especially young children will have a hard time understanding, but that being said none of the rooms are bad for kids and every room is entirely approachable with little to no experience with escape rooms.
Im having a very hard time picking a favorite room, but im torn between Timeliner and Prison Break. What I love about escape rooms the most is the puzzle design and solving puzzles. Timeliner felt like one long puzzle, every solution led to the next thing to solve and it made the whole experience much more fluid. There was very little looking around wondering what we were supposed to be doing, which I love. However, even if the pacing of the Timeliner was great, the Prison Break puzzles just felt more rewarding to me. I think this is because Timeliners environment is very detailed and flashy, and you engage with the environment a lot. Prison Break forces you to engage more with your fellow inmates. I don't wanna go into too much more detail and spoil the rooms, But i think after reflection I would give Prison Breaks my personal number one spot. However if you prefer a flashy set then Timeliner might be more your thing. (Not that prison break isnt super immersive, its just a prison and not a time travel train lol)
As far as hints or help if you get stuck, while you are allowed infinite hints, the game masters are fairly forthcoming with clues if the team gets stuck or keeps missing something. This is something I think most people will probably appreciate, but I personally think they could be a tad trigger happy with the hints at times. Im sure its tough from a crew member perspective to decide when to help and when to hold back, especially since every single party is going to be a little different and want different levels of help. Because of that, this isnt the biggest complaint in the world especially since there were definitely many hints we did need and use lol. It also didn't take away from our enjoyment of completing the rooms. I just happen to be someone who enjoys trying on my own first and getting help only after trying everything, but I know some people get frustrated and i think theres nothing wrong with lots of hints if thats more fun to you!
If you're looking for something to do in the area I would absolutely recommend The Escape Game. There are also a bunch of great restaurants and bars within walking distance, making a game and dinner...
Read moreTldr: Excellent rooms and staff. Extremely immersive. We played every room in a two day span. Staff went above and beyond for my daughter's birthday.
Wow. To say that the Escape Game Midtown Team went above and beyond to make my daughter's weekend special, doesn't even begin to cover the magic that they brought to my daughter's 12th birthday.
All she wanted to celebrate her birthday was to do an escape room. We choose The Escape Game based on the glowing reviews online. And they were not wrong.
We played our first game at the Midtown location Saturday night. It was one of the most immersive experiences we have had in an escape room, and before we went to bed, we had already booked a second visit. From the woman checking us in to our game master, everyone was in a great mood, fun to chat with, and focused on making sure that we had a great time.
We arrived Sunday morning, ready to play. And play and play and play. (You get 40% off each game after your first that you book for the same day.)
That's right - in two days, we played every room available at the Midtown location. Each one had a great game master. Each one was unique and immersive.
But even better than the rooms, are the employees. They chatted with us, told us about their favorite games, talked about visiting the original place in Nashville, and gave great ice cream recommendations. One game master presented my daughter with a birthday card, signed by a bunch of employees. She felt so special.
On our last game, we were informed that the session would be a private one, just for our family. So nice! Then we entered the last room of Prison Break to find a "Happy Birthday" banner . . . which we thought must be part of the game. We didn't realize that the team had taken the time to decorate for Merrin's birthday until we found a handwritten card with a special clue for a lock - Merrin's birth year! The smiles on all of our faces were huge. When the kids opened that box, it was filled with The Escape Game swag.
Just . . . WOW.
My daughter hasn't stopped smiling. She said (even before the final game) that this has been her best birthday yet (and that's 12 years of birthdays).
We spent a good bit of time in the waiting room today, and it was clear that we were not the only happy customers. From families celebrating being together for the holidays to groups experiencing their first escape rooms on a girls' night out, everyone exited with huge smiles. It is clear that the customer service is amazing for everyone who walks through the doors.
We look forward to visiting when the Special Ops room next time we...
Read moreI want to preface by emphasizing that this review is not on the quality of the room, challenges, or staff. Everything just mentioned was fantastic. However, our experience was atrocious due to the fact that they offer “Shared Experiences.”
My group (4) booked one of the rooms, yes it is mentioned upon booking that it may be shared, but we figured we would not get grouped with others. That was unfortunately not the case. While the principle of Shared Experiences does not sound too bad and I know that this company would rather have the potential to make $320 of revenue than half of that. I think it’s ridiculous that the only way to opt out of a shared experience is to split that $320 amongst your group.
I’d love to go to these rooms more, but I hated having another 4 players there. It’s awkward and uncomfortable regardless of the amount of “ice breakers” they make us do. Nobody likes strangers telling them what to do, and nobody feels comfortable telling strangers what to do. The “Shared” experience felt very divided as the 3 separate parties that played together all bundled up and barely cooperated.
If my input means anything, I’d love to see an option to opt out of a shared experience on low traffic days for free or even a small overall fee on high traffic days.
The whole point of an escape room in my eyes is the problem-solving, team-building aspect of the activity. Not to sit uncomfortably waiting for the others in your room to leave a corner as you wait to solve the puzzle they’re...
