Let me start by saying, the staff was friendly, and the gift shop was magnificent, with tons of knick knacks and various historical documents and post cards relating to the lighthouse.
But, now the part that I just cannot get over, and should be made a little more clear from the get go.
I wear a size 11 shoe, not too big, but not exactly small, comparing to the size of the spiral staircase inside, you have to watch your step, all, the way, down.
Now, this is a personal problem I know, but, It was /terrifying/ on the way down, I have vertigo from high places, and normally it's not an issue, but they did not have any form of warning, nor signage, or even a waiver or a 'Yo, this thing really tall and you gotta look down, son' warning, which I really feel should be necessary, if someone falls down, it's gonna pay badly on the folks involved.
Now, with that out of the way, the views are breathtaking, quite literally, while I felt like I was going to pass out, the gentleman at the top was very knowledgeable, and understanding of my grievance.
If you are not worried about heights, long views down, narrow rusty stairs, and are up to date on your Tetanus shot, I would say go for it, but if you have ANY fear of heights, or vertigo in any fashion, I would say avoid this place like the plague, they will not inform you properly of what is in store, stick to the gift shop, and support the history with your wallet,...
Read moreThis has to have been one of my favorite places to have visited during my vacation to New Jersey. On a trip to Atlantic City, my close friend had told me that I owed it to myself to visit the Absecon Lighthouse, and they weren't wrong. Entering the old Life Saving Station, you'll be greeted by kind and knowledgeable staff who seek to preserve the legacy of this rustic landmark. There is a gift shop and museum that documents all the important history behind the significance of the lighthouse, and fascinating facts about the beacon at the top and the brave men who risked their lives to save sailors when shipwrecks occured. For a nominal cost, me and my group were able to scale the 240-step, cast iron spiral staircase to reach the very top, and the view was breathtaking. Not only could you get a clear view of nearly all of Atlantic City, but much of the ocean too! We had fortunately we t on a day where one of the guides were up there, a very kindhearted individual named Buddy. I'll forever be grateful for all the amazing things that I learned thanks to this one of a kind trip I had made to...
Read morethis is a little bit funny but it was not funny I was thinking this lighthouse is bigger originally and when I first saw you I don't like it is so small but it's actually quite big to climb the steps once you get to the top you get to feel the nice breeze and walk around it and you if you have vertigo I would not advise it because it can make you sick or make you panicky my kids also became a little bit afraid of the height so they didn't finish climbing the whole way to the top but it's a very cute lighthouse it's very historical and has a lot of information you can definitely learn something from this experience here it should take only about 30 minutes at most without crowds or without rushing and reading through the information they have so it's a quick trip but it's quite pretty the pictures of the top were very pretty and good and the people and service were very nice we were able to get nice Groupon deals to enter and climb however please have all the information at hand because they cannot access...
