Augusta Canal Discovery Center — Attraction in Augusta

On Saturday 5/21/22, we arrived at the Canal Discovery Center at around 9:45am for their 10am canal boat tour. We were a little dismayed that the tour boat might be at capacity. We hung around to wait and see about a large group that was running a little late. The Discovery Center staff was great and they worked it out that we were able to go on the tour also. The boat guide and captain were great. We really enjoyed the hour long canal tour. We had no idea that the canal was so vital to Augusta's history. It was very informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd annual Canal Discovery day on April 15th 2023. The Canal Discovery Center has a detailed walkable museum that is interactive for all ages. They also offer boat rides with a guide that tells the history of the canal, its workers, the history of the buildings along the canal and the story of the people who hand dug the canal.
