I live in the community and akways wonder what is missing here. Its such a wonderful space with the readily available public access area that has some good activities available, i.e basketball court, swimming pool, vollyball, kids pkayground, etc... but everything here is so spread out and unpolished that it always feels as if something is missing in each space. For example, the kids playground has 4 baby swings and no regular swings. So my older son (5) cant swing when the little one (1.5) swings... doh. For example, the basketball court has no sunncoverage or sun screen but also no lights. It makes it almost painful to play all summer, which could be much more useful when we go to the pool. Also, a fence on the downhill side would be super helpful everytime i clang one off the rim and have to chase it 100 yards down the hill. For example, the pool set up makes no sense. Although i appreciate the latest improvement to provide sun coverage and tables, the fence line goes down the hill and nobody ever uses that space. Why not bring it in so hikers can walk behind it? For expample, theres a horseshoe area that is so far removed from everything, i may be the ony person to know where it is. Its super easy to move but maybe it would be better near the volleyball so groups can play a variety of games in one location

It does have a wonderful bike trail that is super rugged and always challenging hidden back there and i cannot wait until the summer 2018 completion of the walnut hill connection trail that has been ongoing. The first two portions completed are...

As a continuation of the more popular Walnut Creek park to the east (connected by a paved trail under Mopac), Balcones District Park pales a little by comparison. There are new hike/bike pavements here which are very nice. But strangely missing is a usable trail on the NE side of the park to access the Lyda & Minor softball fields. The small "goat" path shown on google maps has an unsecured feeling. On the other (SW) side, there is a tunnel under Duval on the "wrong" side of the creek, but a trail takes one up to Duval and continues on the other side. However, this finger of the park is landlocked by apartment complexes with no outlet to get to the Domain. In summary, the park has potential but without an outlet north to the softball fields or south to the Domain, it feels more like a bookend to Walnut Creek than a vibrant destination in...

Interesting the rock formations that cover in path what would appear to be a tunnel look like mineral deposits from billions of years old inner space cavarn stilagtite and stilagmite formations. The trail also looks like a recently redirected waterway possibly underneath. The laws against natural terrorism are the same in the ideals of malicious intent only the vast about of dollars that are incalculable and unrecoverable without waiting possibly trillions of years. Makes these crimes even more important to insure justice for Earth is not looked as unpunishable. The Great Shady Oak was murdered by these same people. The world will get to see thier faces and hear them defend themselves as I defend the Earth and all the...

This is a beautiful park. Lots of families and kids. Kinds confusing though. We tried to find the waterfall or the bluebonnets fields, and pretty much walked the trail all the way to mopac without seeing signs for anything. I guess it's an "if you know you know" type thing. But the park is still so nice to walk through, and the path is so perfect for bikes! I wish I had one now so I could go to this park and ride my bike every day! One thing this park needs is doggy bag stations and trash cans along the trail. We saw so many bags left along the trail bc there's no where to dispose of them! I had to tie the poop bag to my dog's harness so I wouldn't have to carry it the whole walk.

Great entrance to the walnut Creek trail system. Just like most Austin trails there are tons of great soon off trails. Also there is a pretty large spring that starts here, so it can be educational for the youngsters! If you want to hike through to walnut Creek the trails are marked well and keep you off of any roads. Most of the entire trail system here is very accessible. Please enjoy the Bluebonnet pictures :)
