If you have a student going to UT, please read this before letting your child sign a lease at Texan26.
My son stayed there from February 2022 on a lease that went through July 22. I was a co-signer, and yet was not consulted when they had him renew his lease from August 2022 through February 2023. And apparently, they also had him sign another renewal through August 2024, but would not provide a copy of that to our attorney.
But more than all of that, the whole month of February 2023 my son was in psychosis, starving himself in his room, acting erratically and the other students in the room were calling the police to get support. Texan26 did not call me until this had been going on for weeks. The first notice I had from them was when they were evicting him for non-payment of February rent. My son was not communicating with me because people in psychosis are also suspicious and untrusting and do not think rationally, and cannot hold down jobs to bring in money. He had exhausted his school fund paying the rent at Texan26 and had no money left for food.
On March 8 my son was removed by Rise Recovery and placed in a hospital. He spent 5 months in recovery during which we have been focused on helping him get diagnosed, get on medication, and get well.
Texan26's response to our lawyer's informing them of Garrett's mental condition was to say they did not know he had a disability, stop communicating, stop negotiating, and send the rest of his lease to collections, further adding to the tragedy of this situation and making more burden for my son and our family to deal with on the path to recovery.
I just wanted you to know the kind of management at Texan 26 and warn other parents about their ethics. How long would they have let my son starve in his room if their money had not been cut off? All they care about is the money, obviously.
I hope this information saves another family from going through a...

I'm enjoying Texan 26! There's nothing extremely special about it, but honestly I don't think we (college students) need to be living in pseudo-hotels like Waterloo with a thousand amenities. Rent is lower here than a lot of other places in west campus. It's a little further back but not too unbearable like longviee, plus there's a bus stop RIGHT by the complex. It's perfect for engineering and communications students. There's plenty of stores/restaurants around us too like O Mart and the food trucks, and it's near where most of UT night life is. As a tiny girl, I also think it's important that we live in the safer part of west campus, and that I feel okay walking home at night. 26th and 24th streets are routes I recommend!
We don't have any issues with mold/trash, maintenance is usually quick to respond and if not, everyone in the office greets us with a warm welcome and are willing to help. JJ is great and it's nice to see a friendly face whenever I walk in with questions and concerns. Plus, he gave me a burger
We also didn't lose power during the winter storm and the staff offered to come and turn on faucets/heaters if people weren't home. The units are also pretty spacious! I got the smaller room without the window and it hasn't been too much of a problem either. With utilities, internet, renter's insurance, and rent, I pay less than 900 for a 3x2, and that's as good as a deal you'll get in west campus if you're broke and don't want double occupancy.
All in all, I think we get what we pay for (no amenities) but without much consequence. Texan gives us what we need and not too much more than that. I've had no problems and renewed for...
Read moreRUINED MY FURNITURE AND STOLE MY PROPERTY. Do not live here! I lived here in 2021-2022 and it was a complete and utter nightmare. To begin with I moved into a room with a hole in the ceiling with a tarp covering it and a hole in the wall behind my toilet in the bathroom. This was all from water damage that was very noticeable from the previous damage they hadnât fixed before I moved in. I put in maintenance request and was told by the people at the office it would be fixed soon. I waited months before finally reaching the property manager Margo actually have people come in and fix it. During this time I didnât even live there because I had breathing issues from the black mold. The maintenance people cleaned my bedroom without my permission or knowledge during my lease and took some of my items. I also had my mountain bike stolen from the bicycle parking area. I only lived here for a month before moving out and living with my partner. Since I was stuck in the lease I had to dish out $10,000 for an apartment I didnât/ couldnât even live at. If you are a student or a parent of a student I would recommend not moving here. I discussed this with the property management and they did nothing to help and just disregarded me. Also, the mold ruined my personal mattress. Theres 1 elevator for the entire apartment complex and itâs always broken and disgusting inside. This is a Violation with the Americans with Disabilities Act. I am so unhappy that I lost so much from this place as a 20 year...
