PLEASE READ FOR POTTERY PAINTING: My family has gone here several times in the past for painting pottery -- we usually have a painting day on our OBX trips. This time began great, with myself and my parents painting three pieces last Wednesday. We let them know we were leaving the island on Friday and they told us "no problem, we will have them ready by tomorrow [Thursday]." We received a text around noon on Thursday letting us know there was a "delay" and they would ship the pieces to our home in NY free of charge. We had no issue with this and thanked them for doing so. Wednesday of this week (one week post-painting) rolls around and we have heard and received nothing from them. We call the store to ask, and are immediately handed off to the manager who tells us 2 out of 3 of our pieces "blew up." I'm sorry, what?? The manager then told us they attempted to recreate our pieces and will be mailing them out that day (yesterday). Sadly, they do not have the size platter that my mom painted, so they had to size down for the recreation. When my mom asked about a refund, the manager was taken aback and complained to US!! about the shipping costs that they had to cover. She repeated the same thing when we asked about a refund for the $15 difference of the smaller platter that was repainted. My berry bowl and my mother's platter blew up in the kiln on Thursday of LAST week. These are where my issues lie: (1) We were deceived. Had we not called, they would not have told us about the blow up. If the studio had owned up to what happened and called us the next day (last Thursday), we would have been able to repaint our own items and not have an employee do so. Isn't the point of this to be able to use something that we created together, and not done so by a random person? Their product is sold as an experience of painting your OWN pottery to be used (mug, platter, and berry bowl for us), but in the end we did not get what we paid $180 for. If we wanted to use someone else's pottery, we would have bought one of their completed products and not spent 2 hours painting our own. (2) The manager was annoyed at the question of a refund, especially for the $15 difference of the platter. It is on THEM for the shipping cost and absolutely absurd that she believes it is appropriate to complain to a customer about something that falls on them. Listen, accidents happen. But the studio should have owned up to it, called us, and given the opportunity to repaint on our own (they knew we were still on island and at the very least could have given us the option). We will see what the pieces look like when they arrive soon, but I can assure you I will be giving them a call back regardless to question the price difference in their platter repainting. I do not recommend wasting money here (or having to deal with the manager!). But, in the event that you choose to risk blown up pottery and manager deception, pay by card so that you have the option to dispute the charge (we paid cash)!
UPDATE: We received our pottery pieces in the mail in addition to the copies they made. Our original ones that were "blown up" were not nearly as bad as expected. There were some air bubbles that popped and messed up some of the paint. I changed my review from 1 star to 3 stars. However, I still stand by the lack of communication where they should have told us immediately instead of us having to question the delays on our pieces and the smaller platter should have at least a $15 refund to make up for the...
Read moreStudio 12 is a must visit if you are vacationing around Avon. They have weekly classes at 2pm for certain things you can make but they are also super flexible if you want to do something else. I went in on a Tuesday thinking I’d paint a small clay bowl but then I saw all their glass art and totally changed it up. It wasn’t too busy cause I went in April so keep that in mind if you go in the summer months. The owner was super cool and explained everything to me, she really took the time to help get my creative juices flowing. I had a very nice conversation with her intern as I worked on my glass art. It was really a nice time overall. I went with the iconic wave stencil on an 8” round and they made it into a shallow bowl (which did take full 2 days to fire up in the kiln). They also have projects available with next day pickup so be sure to choose accordingly. I’m super happy and impressed with my glass art and I will have it for the rest of my life to remember my amazing vacation in the...
Read moreme and my boyfriend had came in for some coffee. there was 2 women up front, one blonde and one brunette. i wished the brunette good luck because what i am assuming is the blonde women was either a manager or owner but she was so disrespectful towards the new girl (she told me it was only her third day). the blonde haired women had nagged at her about closing the pastry door, but then proceeded to leave it open herself LMAO. there were several slick comments she made towards her employee in front of customers. as someone who works in the restaurant business, this was very unprofessional. she needs to handle those comments in private. the brunette barista made my coffee absolutely perfect! for only being there 3 days, i...
