What a lovely hike! I have to admit, the weather was simply perfect. We parked at the Wheeler House where there is plenty of parking. This added about 15 minutes of easy walking each way, but we didn't want to risk our car on the dirt road which leads up to the small parking area at the start of the trail. Plus it's a short trail, so we were in and out in about 2 hours including a cooling off at the river. From the Wheeler House walk up the Robert Lake Road. When you arrive where that street stops (there's a street going down to the left) just go straight into the forest on the gravel road. It will lead to the parking area from where the trail starts. The trail goes mostly downhill to the river which is just beautiful. Bring swimwear and definitely water shoes if you want to cool off. On the entire hike on the most beautiful Sunday we only ran into 8 more hikers. Remember: you'll take the same way back...
Read moreI went to the trailhead with my Fiancee's son because we were on the lookout for The Georgia's Bigfoot. Even though we returned without getting the chance to witness the squatch of the south, the trailhead definitely proved to be a great location to get in a hike and get out into nature. This trailhead is a surprising challenge for being a backwoods hike right across the street from some new construction. It's hills are nothing to shake a stick at. But if you do, make sure to leave the stick there after you shake it, and try not to sweat on your way out. Good place to get exercise, especially with the family dof, awesome views, and for real friendly passer byers. Just don't make the same mistake I did wearing descent running shoes trekking this path. Or do make that mistake and learn what Robert's Lake Trailhead has in store for a nice pair of shoes. It's no gentle walk...
Read moreGorgeous short (but sometimes steep) hike in to the old dam and out the same way. Markers all along the trail. No bathrooms, but there are a couple small city parks nearby if you need one. To get to the trailhead parking (free parking), we navigated first to the Wheeler House and then continued down Robert's Lake Road (to the left of Wheeler House if you're coming from the main road) until it ends and becomes a gravel road (see photo). We have a low sedan so we didn't risk it; we parked near the new construction neighborhood and walked in. Definitely...
