Brings me back to the simple days!! My son and I have date nights every Friday and he chose to go to the movies on his Friday to pick. We just moved to the area so finding this little gem was truly a dream come true bc The Senator offers Al the magic of going to the movies. From the box office to the nostalgic candy at the concession booth, The Senator was a hidden secret in Baltmore’s Belvedere district.
The location was within walking distant of Belvedere so this is an ideal spot for a date night with dinner and a movie. The theatre itself boasts historical architecture and kept the classic aesthetic of movie theatre’s from better days. The nostalgic appeal mustered up some wonderful memories for me and it was incredible to share this experience with my son who is growing up in a modern age.
Walking in, you find yourself marveling at the dome of the common space before following your nose to the mouth watering scent of buttery popcorn at the concession booth. The bonus bar in the corner was a pleasant treat for movie goers 21+ to relax and enjoy a movie with an adult beverage.
My son was most fascinated by the restrooms that kept a waiting room with couches. I told him this is how most facilities were designed back in the day. Seeing the wonder and excitement in his eyes and expressions reminded me of how we as a society have become so hyper focused on ourselves that we will miss out on the magic right in front of us.
The Senator Theatre is another charm in...
Read moreIt is definitely old school theater, as in historic, and that's cool. The kids like seeing movies here, and I have heard they have an upstairs room for families with really small kids. They also have booster seats available in the main hallway to grab for the kiddos. The staff is always quick and friendly. You can buy tickets in advance online, which lets you reserve seats, or from the outdoor ticket window. Seeing movies in the huge main room is cool. They still do the curtain. The concessions are the best prices you are going to find for concessions these days at a theater. And frankly, the tickets are really reasonable too. Plus, you can order Clark Burger (which is nextdoor) and take it into your movie. They have a counter in the theater you can order drinks from. They have an excellent mix of both new films and classic reruns. You don't get the new recliner style seats here and some of the old building is in need of soem extra love amd care, but we always have a good time. They are traditional movie seats, but it has seldom been crowded when we go, so plenty of spacing most of the time. The bathrooms have old fashioned sitting rooms that separate them from the lobby (though the bathrooms themselves are modern). Definitely a Baltimore charm. Park...
Read more*Update 2025- Back here again to see Superman. Decent picture & sound. Was glad I brought my hoodie got chilly inside. Gr8 popcorn and very friendly staff. Reasonable prices for tickets, snacks, & drinks. Very Clean. Still needs more lighting upon entering & exiting theatre. Very hard to remain comfortable throughout movie due to so little space; it is so tight, actually no real room to stretch your legs out unless u kinda turn your body sideways. Theatre is still holding up BUT.😐😒
Senator is A Baltimore Treasure. Historic. An older theater. Took my brother there for this bday to see Bad Boys Ride or Die. Myself and a lot of others had a hard time seeing coming into the actual theater bec lighting was very lacking inside. Hard to see in the dark and find your seats. This was 25-30 min before the movie started. Clean Inside. Very Retro aesthetic. Not much space to stretch your legs out. Nice big screen and awesome booming sound. Decent ticket prices. Staff made the best of having to work on a Sunday evening. Not crowded. Had a nice...
