They saved my dissertation. Literally.

Just before I was about to defend my PhD dissertation, my computer completely died, and several critical data files weren’t backed up. It was a nightmare scenario: without those files, I would’ve had to redo half my dissertation (which would likely take a year or more).

I called Apple and several data recovery specialists and was either told it was hopeless or quoted thousands of dollars just to have it looked at.

The team at Computer Doctor of Maine took it on without hesitation, they charged a really reasonable fee to do an assessment. The drive was in extremely rough shape, mechanical damage and all, and was behaving very oddly any time you'd try to access data on it. Boot that drive to another computer to access it, and it would manage to shut down both and prevent access.

They somehow managed to repair the drive enough to keep it alive for months as it slowly and steadily transferred over 4TB of data! I truly cannot believe it, but they managed to recover everything. Every scrap of information on that iMac.

They were very kind, helpful, and the cost was shockingly fair. If they had charged hourly (given how long the data transfer took due to the state of the drive), I’d be out an arm and a leg. But they didn’t. They just did the work, charged an extremely fair price, and delivered something I thought I had lost forever.

So yes, always back up your data. But if you forget, and everything goes sideways, call these guys.

Brought my 2020 MacBook Pro to these guys because I smashed my screen on accident. They replaced it with a third party part for around five hundred dollars, and it only took them a few days. Very reasonable price, and fast service. THEN there was an issue. The screen replacement they got from that third party provider was damaged. The screen's layers were delaminating from each other, and I didn't notice until about three weeks later. (It was only visible at certain angles, and didn't happen all the time. No wonder the guys at computer doctor didn't see it.)

I called in and they said they would fix it, no issue. I brought it in and apparently it was a day or two passed the warranty that the third party parts provider gave the unit. The guys gave me a call and said that they would cover the cost of the replacement even though it was ABSOLUTELY my fault for not noticing and bringing it back in sooner.

They replaced the faulty screen with a remanufactured one straight from apple, to guarantee that it was of good quality, and had it ready for me the same day that they got the replacement screen at their shop.

They absolutely didn't have to cover this for me, but they did anyway, and they did it in a timely fashion, giving me updates via text every step of the way. Their customer service is of a level that's rarely matched these days. I would absolutely recommend these guys to any of my friends/family. I went to the big box store to see if replacing my battery in my laptop could be done. I was told you need an appointment. Nothing until 7:20 p.m. that night, it was now 5 p.m. I then questioned the turnaround time to get something fixed if that was what was needed. I was told it would have to be sent out and would take over a week. I said this is not an option for me and she said that's how we do things. Proceeded out to my car and called Computer Doctor of Maine. It was now 5:20 and the website said they closed at 6 p.m. I asked if they could check my computer to see if it was the battery giving me the issue. They said they could. Do I need an appointment? No ma'am. How far away are you? Told him where I was and he said if he stood outside he could wave to me. I'll be right over. He checked my computer and told me he would order a battery. How long will that take, I asked? About a week but you can take your computer home and when it comes in it will not take long. A week later my battery came in, dropped it off at noon and picked it back up at 5 p.m. Just because it was convenient for me that way. I was treated very courteously and my laptop is back to working order. The entire staff at Computer Doctor of Maine was very helpful and pleasant to work with and it didn't cost me a fortune.
