A must see for Sitka. If you are looking for a museum-like experience, the Bishop's House is more what you might expect. This cathedral does not feel like a museum, because it ISN'T a museum. The donation box is awkward and the glass cases with (seemingly) random old church stuff is the only "museum" experience you will find here.
This is a church. You likely will not visit when it is doing what it was made to do, but this is a house of prayer. One thing I noticed right when I stepped in was the amazing energy I felt, as I was getting ready to leave I mentioned it to the Patriarch, who was not only very knowledgable, but nice and friendly man, who told me that the energy I was feeling was the saints that were blessing you when you walked in. The chilly exterior belies the warmth inside, where gold and red tones dominate.
