I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Mean Queen, a charming Sitka restaurant where locals gather for good food and great company. Our brunch experience at this hidden gem left us thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
From the moment we walked in, the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made us feel right at home. The menu offered a variety of enticing options, and we decided to try the breakfast tacos, the MQ sandwich, and the breakfast bagel with prosciutto. Let me tell you, every bite was a burst of flavor that exceeded our expectations!
The breakfast tacos were a true delight. Filled with perfectly scrambled eggs, savory bacon, and fresh vegetables, each taco was a balanced blend of textures and tastes. The MQ sandwich was a real showstopper, boasting a generous portion of mouthwatering ingredients. The combination of tender meat, melted cheese, and tangy sauce between two slices of artisan bread was pure perfection. As for the breakfast bagel with prosciutto, the quality of the ingredients shone through with every bite. The flavors melded together harmoniously, leaving us craving for more.
While enjoying our scrumptious brunch, we couldn't help but notice the tantalizing mimosas being served at nearby tables. The vibrant colors and the refreshing bubbles were an irresistible sight. Without a doubt, we'll be indulging in those picture-perfect mimosas during our next visit. They truly looked amazing and would be the perfect accompaniment to a leisurely brunch experience.
The Mean Queen is more than just a place to eat; it's a gathering spot where locals come together to share stories, laughter, and good food. The attentive staff and warm ambiance create an inviting environment that adds to the overall experience. Whether you're a visitor or a long-time resident, this restaurant welcomes you with open arms and serves up a memorable meal.
I cannot recommend The Mean Queen highly enough. The brunch options we tried were not only delicious but also thoughtfully prepared. The attention to detail and the quality of ingredients truly set this place apart. Next time you're in Sitka, make sure to pay a visit to The Mean Queen. Your taste buds will thank you!

Read moreService was horrible. Not only did we get rude service from our waitress, but also by the owner herself. As we are just talking about life and memories in our little fishing community, she makes a scene and silences our conversation. In an atmosphere where you would think we would be accepted, she silences my boyfriend and his friend, who are both Haida native Alaskans.
The next night, as nothing else was open, we were apprehensive about returning, but were hoping the disrespect from last night wouldn’t carry over to the new day. We were met with a rude bartender. We ordered our food in advance, and were told by an unkind waitress “we don’t do that here”, and to not do it again, as we’re seated. We were met with judgmental and inconsiderate stares from the owner and waitress, through our very short time there. It was so uncomfortable, we didn’t finish our food and left within 10 minutes of getting there.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. The mortal they support, do no include inclusivity. Being with one of the only Alaskan Natives in the restaurant, and being treated so poorly really opened my eyes. I’ve traveled throughout the United States and even other countries, and never been treated so poorly. Please do better, and support local businesses who care...
Read moreWe stopped by Mean Queen for breakfast, and while the portion sizes were solid, the overall experience left a bit to be desired.
The avocado toast was especially disappointing. The ingredients were fresh, but the presentation and flavor were too simple. I really wish it had been served with sliced tomatoes and onions instead of chopped onions and cherry tomatoes. It felt like a missed opportunity to elevate a basic item.
The shrimp omelette was better because the shrimp were fresh and well-cooked. However, it could’ve used more seasoning overall. The hashbrowns were nicely done, though!
As for the black coffee, it just didn’t hit the mark. It was weak (not strong enough).
That said, I really appreciated that this is an LGBTQ+ friendly space. Feeling safe and welcomed made a difference in my experience, and for that alone, I’d give them another shot. Maybe next time for lunch or dinner. I’ve heard good things about their pizza, so I’d definitely come back for that.
In my opinion, breakfast just wasn’t their...
