Bettie, there was no signage placed around the building or parking lot the day of our visit. If this is a recent enhancement, your guests will certainly appreciate the improvement.
Since you brought up the email, allow me to set the record straight. I called LEKA asking for the owner to reach out. After sharing my story with your employee at LEKA, I was met with compassion, understanding, and acknowledgement that what me and my family went through at DigPDX was not appropriate for any customer. Given you’ve changed policy so much, they were very reassuring it could have been handled differently.
The employee took notes on my experience and my phone number and that she would have you call my mobile. Not email. Not by post. I was expecting a phone call. Was leaving my phone number with an employee too complex of a notion to follow through by phone? Was the expectation not clear?
On that same call I let the employee know I would wait one week before reaching out again knowing that an owner might be busy…running a business… the week in between was me being respectful of your time. More importantly, if I had known you were going to pull my husband’s email from our customer profile, I might have been monitoring the inbox. Again - effective communication is crucial. Thank you for bringing that up.

Effective communication is crucial. I recognize the necessity for businesses to adapt their policies in response to factors such as demand, scale, and safety, and I fully respect their decisions.
However, the recent policy changes at DigPDX have occurred three times within the past six months, yet they have not been adequately communicated to customers. Regrettably, our family did not receive notification that Sunday hours now require reservations, resulting in an unexpected inconvenience.
Sadly, as my 4 and 2-year-old children were in tears, and my eldest asked, "why do those babies get to stay and play?" after eagerly entering the building, it was the owner, Bettie, who addressed us over the commotion. She explained the policy change, expressed that the establishment was at capacity, and regretfully informed us that no exceptions could be made.
After the incident, Bettie and I communicated via email. I'm sure she had the best of intentions, but this situation was handled very poorly. Simply posting a sign on the door stating "Reservations only" would have saved us a lot of trouble and time. Implementing policy changes requires proper change management, and I hope this feedback is considered for future adjustments to prevent other families from experiencing the...
Read moreThis is a really neat place. The whole space gets a little loud but at least on weekends at the time of writing this it is only open to book one birthday at a time. The kids moved between the sand boxes and everyone really enjoyed it. There wasn’t much to worry about and everyone stayed active for the whole time talking to each other. They have free safety glasses to borrow which the kids found later in their play.
When you first walk in there are two tablets to sign waivers and open cubbies for kids to put shoes and socks. There is a small infant space without sand and the parents setup the center corral kid tables, several regular height and bar height tables for snacks, juice boxes and even spent a short time eating cupcakes within the space. The space makes it easy to keep the snacks at the tables.
There wasn’t much time where the kids weren’t in the sand. They have a tablet you can pay for a selection of other snacks and even sodas and a few alcoholic drinks though I don’t think I saw anyone buy anything…but a few considered it. There is only one staff person but they were very nice and swept sand once in awhile and ultimately they didn’t rush people out and clean up the space at the end.
We actually moved around a lot and ended up being able to talk with parents yet didn’t feel overly crowded. My wife really liked that one of the two bathrooms had a child toilet and lower sink. Their website mentions they imported the sand from Canada and it’s more kid safe. One of the spaces they wet down a little so you could make sand castles or use molds. They had a lot of toys and tools in all the spaces but climbing the dino head sculpture and jumping off into the sand was popular.
We do wonder long term, how often they’ll need to change out the sand, can they clean it or will they just replenish. In the end there are brushes to easily get most the sand off little feet and didn’t feel like we took sand with us into the car but we also brought a change of clothes which we never used.
The space was initially a little smaller than I expected but a decent size with no walled rooms except for the bathrooms in the back. The tables area does have a little gate which makes it nice we kids wanted to have juice. Overall birthday pricing is a little higher than some other places but it was pretty cool, felt clean and...

We are a big fan of this indoor play place. It is so well thought out. We have been here a few times including their Easter egg hunt. I highly recommend this place for young families.
This place is popular and for good reason. They have three big sand pits for kids to dig in for hours. Check their web to see if there is a waitlist. If they’re full, put your name on the waitlist and time when to head over. However, the person at the front desk said the wait is usually shorter.
The workers are friendly and helpful. There are cubbies to put your items. They also provide protective eyewear if your kid doesn’t want sand in their eyes. Otherwise, just bring yourselves! They provide all the tools to have fun in the sand. Everyone must be barefoot.
There is a small area in the very front near the entrance for babies to play. There is also a small snack and drink area. You can eat your packed lunch at the tables or feel free to buy some snacks and drinks from a self serve kiosk. They also sell some merchandise and toys. There are two family friendly bathrooms, but one is larger so if you have a stroller and/or a big family, you all can fit in that one. This large bathroom has a small toddler toilet, which is awesome when you’re potty training a little one. In the cabinet there are some diapers.
The workers periodically sweep the sand back in the pits. They keep the place clean and safe. It’s a great place!
Their Easter egg hunt was so much fun too. Probably the most fun and safe egg hunt I’ve ever been to because they limited the number of people attending each session. Everyone found tons of eggs everywhere, and three people found the three golden eggs for a prize! They brought out the Easter Bunny (looks like Peter Rabbit) and gave away a goodie bag before leaving. Worth it for $30. We’ll be back next year...
