Santos Barbershop — Local services in Berkeley

I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience from the start. When I called to make an appointment, I was asked to come in at 2 pm and ask for Felix, but when I replied asking if my name and phone number was needed there was no reply. I stayed on the line for another two minutes just listening to the sounds of the barber shop and repeating "Hello?" before finally hanging up. I then arrived five minutes before my appointment and waited for nearly 30 minutes without being acknowledged at all. Someone even showed up and said they had an appointment at the same time and with the same barber as me. When I spoke out and said that I had that same appointment I again was not even acknowledged. I wanted to shout to see if someone could hear me, and maybe I should have. This was what ultimately caused me to leave without a haircut. I waited for some time after this person came in for them to hopefully finish up one of the previous customers and come to some resolution about the schedule conflict. But after waiting some more, I decided that I had waited long enough to not even be sure if I was next in line for a haircut and walked out...

This is my favorite barbershop in Berkeley. The prices are very good, yet the service and cuts are better than the more expensive shops in town. My best cuts have come out of this shop. I like the ambience of the shop, and I really appreciate that while it’s a fraternal environment, there isn’t the toxic masculinity found in some shops (and to be clear, it’s not fratty like college frat). The shop is nice and clean, unlike some of those dumpy shops around campus or San Pablo Ave. Additionally, the barbers are down to earth; a nice contrast to the pretentious shops in town. I’ve had cuts with Michel and a few other barbers, and every one was great. If you’re looking for a barbershop with good vibes, and good music, Santos Barbershop is your go to place. Michell is a perfectionist when it comes to cutting hair, not only does he take his time, but he is also very attention to detail, making sure both sides of your head are always symmetrical to one another. I usually don’t allow barbers to touch my facial hair, because they always mess it up, but I trusted Michell with it today and he honestly did better then what I do on my own.
