Las Cabañas Mexican Grill & Taqueria — Restaurant in Berkeley

My family and I decided we didn't want to cook so we ordered some take out delivery food. We couldn't decide for the longest time and finally I put my foot down and ordered Mexican food since we haven't had any mexican food for a long time. We ended up ordering from Las Cabañas Mexican grill since it was a new place we haven't tried, and we used a promo from Uber eats to get free tacos. We ordered super nachos with steak, regular burrito with carnitas, steak fries nachos with steak, wet burrito with Carne al pastor, and super tacos with beef birria.

The super nachos were good, but I felt there wasn't enough cheese, and the steak pieces were a bit dry and chewy, but the tortillas, beans, and sauces were really tasty.

The regular burrito had lots of meat in it, and the rice was well cooked and seasoned really well. The entire burrito was delicious and very filling.

The steak fries nachos were surprisingly good, but again, it kind of was skimpy on cheese, and the steak pieces were dry and chewy, but the sauces and other toppings were good.

The wet burrito was huge and filled with lots of meat and well seasoned rice. The guacamole was chunky and super delicious. The beans and other filings were also delicious and added a really good mix of flavors and texture. I really loved the red sauce that was all over the burrito. It had a smoky flavor with just the right amount of seasoning and mild heat.

I think the star of the show was the free super tacos. The corn tortilla had a nice texture and held up really well to all the ingredients that were put on it. The beef birria was super delicious with so much flavor and juicyness that it was just dripping out. It was finger licking GOOD! The added bonus to tie everything together were the guacamole, Pico de Gallo, fresh tomatoes, and sour cream.. mmmm, mmmmm, delicious! My mouth is just watering thinking about those tacos.

Stingy portions, high prices, bad service and poor ambiance. We've gone here 3 times. Each time we've gotten a super burrito or bowl. They just really hold back on fillings yet charge $16-$18. A burrito bowl should be the same amount of food as a burrito yet was only half. I wish I could say this happened just once but it's every time. The woman who helped us was multitasking online orders and the counter. She asked for our orders then kept abruptly walking away mid order. A language barrier made simple orders difficult. She would not engage at all, ignored us and would not make eye contact. It took 15 minutes to order 3 things because she kept walking away. She seemed angry when we could get her attention to continue the order. All our burritos lacked guacamole which we'd paid for. Also, they have about 4 TV's all playing different things which is unpleasant. This place could easily be so much nicer. Larger portions of toppings, a support staff person for online orders and music instead of TV. They seem to have bought nicer tables, why not make it a nice ambiance? Since the food here is nothing special, I think 'La Mission' is our place from now on. They have great ambiance, nice people and feed you well...

I just ordered a veggie burrito and an order of fries. This will be my first and LAST TIME ordering from this restaurant! The burrito had fries in it which were stale, the cheese was cold, the beans were okay along with the veggies inside. The fries I ordered were SEVEN dollars and they gave me three dollars worth of fries and they were soggy and tasted like they sat out for a while. The service got better AFTER I ordered but when I first arrived I was the only one in line and the cashier was on her notepad writing something down. I arrived and there was no acknowledgement or greeting (not that I need that) but I was kindly waiting for her to finish what she was doing until I started to order. I had to wait 10 mins until I finally asked if I could place my order. Then while im ordering she’s talking past me with her coworker again about what I don’t know so I had to repeat myself THREE times because she wasn’t paying attention.
