Keep Your Receipt!!!
I was accused of stealing a 10 lbs. bag of Russet potatoes ($1.49). Now granted, there was a display of them located between the entrance and exits, and I did not elect to have the ones I PURCHASED be bagged, as they were already in a bag to begin with, but the Columbo style sting operation that was implemented to crack down on the alleged tater "theft" was overly excessive.
I understand the need to cut down on theft is a huge concern for retailers, but only an OFFICER OF THE LAW can detain someone or legally suspend civil liberties where applicable. I understand HOW the store associate made a mistake by assuming I pilfered the potatoes as I left the store, but their demeanor was unacceptable even after I produced a receipt contrary to their allegation. Furhthermore, I received no apology for their mistake.
My advice is to Berwyn Produce is to treat your customers like you want to be treated and while you're at it, check out a document called The Bill Of Rights.

Today I bought a sliced prepackaged jicama, when I opened it, the jicama was slimy and smelled spoiled. So the owner told me it was my fault for not checking the best use date and if I had no receipt he can't give me my money back or exchange it. He also said that I must have nothing better to do since I'm wasting my time calling him. Really? I was not calling to get my money back, I thought he would appreciate knowing what's going on in his store. What surprises me, he prefered to lose a customer for $2.99 and all he got was this review.
