Tran’s Market is the coolest Asian food market in southern Maine. They have all kinds of imported specialties and a very good stock of fresh veggies at low prices, although to be honest, occasionally some of their produce is less than 100% desirable, don’t buy too many mangoes at one time for example because sometimes they look good on the outside but are kinda funky on the inside. Mushrooms and many other items are always good there though and they have fancy Baby Bellas and large Portabellas at the best prices you’ll find anywhere. They also stock an unbelievable selection of Asian sauces, really good not-so-Asian cheeses like Danish Blue cheese and shaved (not finely grated, though they have that too) Parmesan, and fresh Feta. They stock an awesome collection of rice including large bulk bags up to 25 pounds (ask Andy which kind he takes home to his family, to get the very best) and they even stock Pearl River Bridge brand of soy sauce, the best brand I’ve ever found! Just that is worth driving a hundred miles to stock up on! What I’ve described is just the tip of the iceberg though, you owe it to yourself to go discover why you will want to return to Tran’s Market at every...
Read moreTrans Market is a classic Asian market with a great range of fresh, frozen, and shelf stable ingredients for sale. They have a huge range and variety of sauces, produce, noodles, rices, frozen dumplings, even dairy, all at lower than typical prices.
The only trade off of the low prices is that some of the fresh produce and dairy is less fresh than it might be at a supermarket. This just means that you should plan on using these fresh ingredients within a few days of purchase. They DO NOT sell bad or unsafe food, but they do get it in a little later in it's shelf life than a supermarket, so be aware.
Tran's has become a staple of our regular shopping and they have a lot to offer if you know how to cook any stripe of...
Read moreFrom the outside, this place looks rundown and sketchy. On the inside it's clean, bright, well-kept, and full of great produce (among other things). The prices are AMAZING. If you're low income, you can buy healthy food here in large quantities for a lot less than Market Basket or Hannaford. I remember I got three FULL grocery bags of produce and it was all like $32. That includes pints of strawberries, which are normally really expensive.
Then there's the noodles, and the frozen section- I will legit rush here after work from Portland just to get their frozen dumplings, then drive all of the way home to Limington. I will do my grocery shopping here on my weekends. It's well worth the drive. You won't regret coming...
