Biddeford City Theater — Attraction in Biddeford

The City Theater is one of Biddeford's many gems highlighting the revival of downtown, aka, "the Biddessaince." With an intriguing history that included being used to store gravel in the mid-1970s, I'm glad the the theater's many volunteers cared enough about historical preservation to bring the theater back to it's current state.

My wife and I saw “It’s A Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio Theatre," a "live radio broadcast" and an new take on the classic Christmas tale. The theater was about 3/4 full and everything was first-rate. I like that they offer beer and wine at intermission.

Then, we saw "Holly Star," filmed locally in Biddeford/Saco. Another great experience, experiencing this wonderful, historic theater in the heart of downtown.

It's the first time I've been back since I was in high school (dogs ages). The place is still the same and different. The stage was different and the balcony seats were much closer than I remember. Hidden away is this beautiful little theater next to City Hall in Biddeford. From the outside, you do not get an impression of the early 20th century opera house that lies within. An amazing little slice of Maine's history that assembles an entertaining and energetic troupe of local talent to perform extremely enjoyable shows.
