Biloxi Small Craft Harbor — Attraction in Biloxi

If you are looking for water access without getting hassled, keep driving. We were prepping for a month long run, first leg being 400 miles across the gulf. I needed a dock for wet systems ops checks before departure, which wouldn't take long but important for going offshore. Wouldn't accommodate, needed a night's slip rental for that, and no parking offered at any courtesy dock or out of the way at the gas dock. While still prepping in the parking lot, we were hassled and somewhat lectured about dock use and anchoring rules by a guy more worried about trailer parking (of which we can park properly) and staying clear of the small recreational fishing boats than offering any helpful tips. I was actually advised to pick up my wife at a pier down the way (after dropping off the truck) rather than to simply use their courtesy dock at the ramp (30 second operation). My seamanship was questioned while still on dry land, meanwhile we watched a guy back his boat trailer off the ramp and into the dock! Locals and fishing boats were obviously given preference here. This wasn't exactly our first day on the job, and we were more efficient launching a 30ft sailboat than some if the center cockpit crowd.

My experience with the personnel left a bad taste, and I had no desire to return. To be fair to the facility; the place is easy to access from the road, and the boat ramp and parking lot...
