Recently placed a large order with Digikey as soon as stock came available on a scare component. They placed a hold for the full order amount on my CC (so they had no issues charging the card) but then the credit department sent a letter saying I needed to provide ID or a new form of payment. I sent my ID to both the credit and accounting departments, neither of whom bothered to acknowledge receipt of my personal information. The next day I checked the order status in my account and found out the order was cancelled. Digikey didn’t even bother to send me any notice that they had cancelled the order. When I called customer service to find out why the order was cancelled, they couldn’t give me any explanation, and the parts were no longer available as they had been bought by someone else after my order inexplicably cancelled. I was absolutely floored by this experience and the company couldn’t even offer a simple apology for leaving me high and dry for no particular reason. Digikey has terrible customer service, and their credit card department seems to enjoy screwing up legitimate orders for kicks. Combined with the fact that their pricing is pretty non-competitive, Digikey will be my last resort distributor going forward, they don’t deserve the business of hard working...

Nearly every other company, including its competitors Mouser and Newark, allow this. When your employee leaves and Digi-Key finds out, their entire order history is scrapped, leaving your new buyer blind unless they pretend to be that user.
