I am so angry about my visit to the Edina El Camino "Gourmet" Tacos location last night.
Caution to anyone who needs a late dinner: They close at 8 on Mondays, and if you come after 7:30, you will get almost nothing but leftovers and barely warm food.
I spent over $22.xx last night and had 4 items including the Wet Taco, their special Habanero beef wrap thing, the Korean taco and pastor taco.
Brief background: I went to the Eagan location on Saturday around noon and I might have had the best wet taco, best pastor taco and best shrimp taco I've had in recent memory. I asked for it well done/crispy and it all came out so hot that I had to let it cool off, and was nicely browned on the grill. I instantly recommended it to a group of foodie friends, who all said they'd try it soon.
Last night: we had cold food and the cheese was hardly even melted on the wet taco, which is literally unforgiveable.
I get it, that people want to get home after working long days, particularly in the food industry. But the lapse in quality and consistency leaves me wondering if I'll ever visit again, without specifying "well done" and "crispy" on everything. And, worse - if I actually received the standard tacos, delivered as the owner would have them delivered - I'd never visit again, unless it was maybe the Eagan location (farther from my house).
Overall, beware of the price and quality. There are lots of good taco joints around and thankfully, El Camino Gourmet Tacos' 2 locations are in places where it won't be forgiven to...
Read moreDecided to try this on a whim after a Jamba Juice run. I’ve been craving some spanish style rice and beans lately and al pastor tacos. I ordered 4 al pastor tacos, two ground beef tacos for my kiddo, and rice & beans to-go.
When I got home and opened my bag, I was SO disappointed they forgot my rice and beans. I was most excited for that.
I really love how they have ground beef options for picky kids who like regular tacos. But, all of our tacos were dripping wet and falling apart, my kid wouldn’t eat his. I didn’t mind the mess, but it did take away from the experience and the taste of soggy tacos wasn’t ideal.
The Al pastor isn’t bad. I liked it, but it didn’t taste like the authentic Al pastors I’ve had in the past. It was spicy, which I enjoyed, but the spicy/sweet balance wasn’t there. The spice overpowered the taco. Thankfully I like spice, but what I love about Al pastors is the perfect balance between the sweet pineapple and the meat. I think maybe there was just too much meat and not enough pineapple.
I’d probably go back again and try their bowls, maybe dine-in next time to see if it’s a better food experience. I’m disappointed by my first experience because I had such high hopes, and really wanted those rice and beans, lol. But it’s worth a second chance! Their...
Read moreIt was 3pm and I had not eaten breakfast or lunch....so my appetite was through the roof. I felt like anything would've tasted amazing at that point because I was so hungry. My buddy and I wanted to try something new, so we chose this spot. All I can say is that this place was a huge disappointment. Menu was boring and very limited. I chose an Al Pastor bowl for $10.50 and I'd say the portion is about 80% of what you typically get at Chipotle (for a bowl), and my buddy chose a $4 Barbacoa street taco. The Al Pastor meat was very good and fresh, but the rice, beans, and the salsa I put on it was very bland/boring. In fact, I'm 90% sure the rice wasn't flavored at all because I couldn't taste anything when I ate the rice alone. The salsa appears homemade, but it was also very dull/boring - lacks any zest or tang. The street taco was also way overpriced for $4 because my buddy literally ate it in 2 bites. Other local joints I've been to that offers street taco's charges only ~$3 for a street taco and it comes with a small...
