The worst happy hour i’ve ever been to. The quality of the food was terrible. We ordered two nachos, the spicy tuna roll, cheese flatbread, red sangria and a beer. The nachos lacked enough ingredients to cover all the chips. For some reason there was corn on the nachos, I counted 4 jalapeños, 7 olives, and a smattering of fake cheese sauce. I think I saw some pico de gallo-type ingredient but it was almost non existent, like they scraped what little they had left onto my nachos. Btw, both nachos were like this. Their nachos are barely a step above the chips and cheese sauce you can buy from the snack bar at a high school baseball game. The spicy tuna roll used canned tuna that was not even close to fresh. Not wanting to waste it we piled on the wasabi but it was really bad. The cheese flat bread was good, but it was for the kids and if you mess that up you have bigger problems. The red sangria was the worst sangria I’ve ever had. It was obviously the cheapest boxed wine they could find poured into a glass with some fruit. It was terrible. We just let the ice melt to water it down to see if that would make it drinkable. My draft beer was fine. Lets talk about the service. Has anyone else noticed that ever since COVID good service is non-existent?; of course the tip is still expected. Some places are understaffed, so I get that. Tavern 23 is no exception. We got our order in pretty quick but it was downhill after that. My beer was done before the nachos came out. I wasn’t asked if I wanted another beer until the nachos were 90% gone. At that point there was no need for another beer. I could’ve used one 15 minutes prior though. Paying the tab also took a considerable amount of time. If you want a good happy hour with some quality food definitely avoid Tavern 23 and go to Yard House (1/2 off poke nachos, chicken nachos, wings, pizza, cheese curds, etc and $2 off draft beer) or Chevy’s (1/2 off huge nachos, half off margaritas) instead. Both Yard House and Chevy’s offer significantly bigger and better dishes for a similar price. Although Tavern 23 has some interesting things on their main menu and brunch menu, I won’t be going back. Their atmosphere suggests they are more classy and sophisticated, but their happy hour food suggests they have no idea what they’re doing and don’t care...
Read moreI had high expectations for Lou Nanne's but the food was very disappointing, especially considering the price. The good: -The interior decor and layout of the restaurant is gorgeous. -Although our waiter was very busy with a large party, he did hustle to make it over to us and check in from time to time. We waited a little longer than usual but the waiter recognized this and gave a us a drink on the house. -The waiter and kitchen were knowledgeable about gluten-free options and preparation. The bad: -We order the Chopped Salad to start and initially it was very good until I bit what I thought was a chunk of iceberg wedge but really it was a whole tomatillo and was scoring hot in my mouth. I know tomatillos are supposed to be mild but this guy packed a punch and I couldn't get this strong, spicy taste out of my mouth. -Upon our waiter's recommendation, I ordered the Mustard Crusted Salmon. When it arrival there was no crust on the mustard it was a piece of salmon thickly coated in plain mustard. On my first bite the mustard flavor overpowered the salmon and it did not taste good. I scraped the mustard off of the rest of the salmon so that I could enjoy the fish. The rest of the fish was okay, slightly overcooked for salmon, and definitely not worth $28. -We also order the Garlic & Herb Crusted Prime Rib with a side of fries and bearnaise. The fries were bland and cold and they never brought the bearnaise. The prime rib was one of the worst steaks we've had in some time. There was no "crust" of garlic and herb flavor; maybe someone sprinkled seasoning on at the end. The worst part was the texture and toughness of the steak. These are supposed to be tender and flavorful but we had a hard time cutting around the gristle and when we thought we had a good bite, we'd spend minutes chewing the same piece and spitting out what was left. It really was a terrible cut of meat. They touted the source and quality of the meat but we were not impressed.
Summary: The atmosphere and staff are very nice but that does not make up for the lack of quality and poor execution...
Read moreWe love the Centennial Lakes area no matter the season and Tavern 23 is a nice place to stop in for a bite. This time around, 4 of us were attending the Tuesday night outdoor concert and decided to do happy hour pre concert. We didn't make a reservation and it was pretty crowded but the hostess did eventually locate a table in the main dining room. When our server arrived, we were informed that happy hour only applied to the bar seating area and we'd have to order off the regular menu. Even drinks would be regular price. So odd and disappointing. We would have sat in the bar had there been space. Fortunately, a table did eventually open up and we quickly sat down in the bar area. We had just 5 minutes before happy hour ended and our wonderful server, Miles, happily accommodated our orders. It's worth mentioning that only specific drinks are considered happy hour, which isn't unusual for most restaurants. This menu just felt a bit limited with just beer, wine or seltzer. I ordered the white sangria. Did not like it at all. No fruit, came in a mason jar and had was mixed with something that I didn't recognize. Does anyone in MN know how to make a sangria? It's really not that hard.
Noise level: loud making it difficult to hold a conversation. Food: we ordered a Margherita Flatbread, nachos and California and spicy tuna rolls. Loved the Flatbread and nachos and my husband enjoyed his rolls. We've had brunch at Tavern in the past and overall, the food has been tasty.
We will definitely return, but based on having to sit in the bar (with limited seating) to receive happy hour pricing and the noise level, we'll probably avoid their happy hour and go somewhere else...
