The single rooms are too small and very crowded. Originally there were four elevators, but two broke down during my first half semester of stay and haven’t been repaired yet. There are only three shower rooms in the bathroom, but there are a total of 12 people sharing this toilet on the corridor, so sometimes you need to queue up to take a shower. It’s annoying that the fire alarm goes off two or three times a month and even rings in the middle of the night. The walls are too thin and the soundproofing is not very good. The most unpleasant memory for me is that my most precious clothes were stolen in the laundry room, and as an Asian international student, I sometimes experience slight racial discrimination from some American white females in the same corridor. For example, one day last semester when I was returning to my dormitory, I noticed a herbal scent in the hallway. A white woman opened her door, pinched her nose, and frowned at me, asking if I had been cooking ramen in my dorm. In fact, I hadn’t even bought any kitchenware before that day, let alone cooked ramen. This incident really annoyed me, and every time I encountered that white female,I could feel a slight sense of unfriendliness from her. However, fortunately, aside from her and three other white female, everyone else was friendly. Overall, the security measures at Eigenmann are not comprehensive, especially since the women’s restroom does not require a card to enter, posing a potential risk of being spied on by criminals of the...
Read moreMy Son moved in 2 weeks ago. The move in day was hectic but I could tell the people there knew what they were doing. “Movers” on hand, plenty of carts to help make transferring items easier. The only down fall was the wait for an elevator but with thousands of students moving in that same day; I couldn’t complain. “Staff” on hand to man elevators, as to pack as many people and stuff as possible. The line started out the building, but only waited about 20-30 mins before we were in the room unloading.
*Advice to parents; Make their bed before leaving! There’s honestly not a lot to help those adult children especially when they want to “kinda get a feel “ for the room before settling in.. This is my Second to send off, and I asked so many Mom’s how to handle.. Making their bed is definitely something that seems trivial at the time but hits your heart just right; especially when looking back. Other than watching as they unlock the door and entering the first time, it’s one thing that really sticks with you.
Best to all incoming students and their families;...
Read moreWhere do I start... it's a dorm, so you can not really expect too much. The bathrooms need some major remodeling, especially the showers. Some shower heads are extremely low, and some lose pressure. The sinks don't really have an area where you can put your things other than the ground. The main floor student lounge, I would say, also needs some improvement. Something more along Teter Quads floor where students can study or play a game with friends. They have study rooms, cubicles, seating areas, and a lab to work at. There's enough space. It just needs to be implemented within the areas that Eigenmann has. No one really goes to the ground library, so that could also be renovated into...
