I tried to return a book I rented the day before. A small amount of water got on the corner of about 10% of the pages while it was in my backpack. They refused to accept it and I had to pay the full $200 rental fee.
There are clerks who would pretend not to notice a small amount of water damage that did not cover any text, because they don’t want to charge a student $200 for a mistake that has no effect on the books readability.
