Students, beware of costs and other implications associated with "tests" that are ordered. Doctor at student health ordered $400 drug screen for my child who had slightly high blood pressure, even though student was taking prescription meds that may contribute to it (and Dr. fully aware of these meds). Student was UNAWARE of, and certainly did not consent to, a drug screen would be done as part of the urinalysis. Of course we are responsible for this charge as such a charge is not covered by student health. Fortunately all were negative, as who knows what would have happened if any showed positive. Why not just ask patient about illicit drugs? What a profound breakdown in patient-doctor relationship, and lack of consideration of costs (real $ and those related to trust)! BU Student Health needs to evaluate their policies regarding drug screens and other tests that are of questionable need. Hey docs, consider establishing a relationship with your patients; or did they not teach...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe shs honestly couldn't care less about BU students. I wanted to go in and get tested for bronchitis because I was showing symptoms of it and I was severely sick, the advice they gave me was to "take medicine, sleep, and drink tea", as if that's not COMMON SENSE, of course I was already doing that. Another thing that I cannot stand about the shs and their mental health services. BU loves to pride itself on their "amazing" mental health services but in reality they couldn't care less. I was suffering with terrible anxiety and the therapist I met with at shs just told me to do some breathing exercise. I ended up meeting with an outside of school therapist and turns out I needed to go on medication because of out serve my anxiety was. Additionally my friend was having terrible stomach pain and they couldn't book an appoint with shs because it was busy that day, they ended up having a stomach infection and had to go the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis clinic has canceled an appointment when I was 9 minutes late (for a shot, which only takes a few minutes) but closed their vaccination clinic a half-hour early. They don't offer check-ups. An otherwise nice physician told me I could not get a check-up at an outside clinic , but as Aetna informed me, according to the Affordable Care Act, I can (for free). And one physician at BU was dismissive of my back pain, whereas a physician at another clinic was kind and offered some helpful at-home exercises and a PT referral.
Addendum: Another physician handed out a pamphlet that described the necessity of a thorough exam and antibiotic treatment for a topical condition, but the physician did not actually provide either. On the other hand, one of the associate directors of primary care was thoughtful and thorough during his examination and provided a helpful referral....
