My 14 year old son signed up for the program in Munich, Germany in summer 2023, including signing up for a home stay. We are in the U.S. but my son's dad is German. We contacted three people at EF, including one person in Germany and two in the Boston office ahead of time to make sure that this would be an appropriate program for someone who was already quite fluent in the language and was a heritage speaker but who wanted to improve and we were assured that this was a good fit for him. TWO WEEKS (after all tickets were purchased to travel there, after our vacation was arranged to get him there and back, and after our Germany family also made vacation arrangements to see us after the program) we were told that no home stay would be available. OF COURSE, this was a CENTRAL part of the program for us because we wanted him to live with a German family and have full German immersion. We were told that NONE of the children in his program would be able to have a home stay, which makes me think that this was not like one last-minute oops, but a systematic failure. There was no way for us to changes plans this late for weeks of international travel planned for 6 months. So, when our son got there, we found out NONE of the children spoke almost any German. So there was no immersion of any type because if he tried to speak German to any of the other kids in the program, they could not understand him and he would be totally left out. He also said he spoke German better than some of the staff and also had to speak English to them. Additionally, it was not an appropriate program for a heritage speaker. Our son spent lots of time doing grammar focused things he didn't understand, being instructed in English. It is fine if the program is not a home-stay program and is not appropriate for heritage speakers, but it was completely unreasonable that we were told there would be a home-stay and were assured it would be appropriate for a heritage speaker and that it would be primarily in German. It was not anything that was promised. It was in a hotel-like building not in the city center (as we thought it would be) but on the outskirts of Munich. I would not suggest working with EF because either they are purposely misleading, or so disorganized that they cannot follow-through on what they say they can/will do. Not once were we offered a refund for any of this. We would have NEVER planned this or paid for this had we known what we were signing up for. I wrote a letter of complaint, but ended up not sending it just because I wanted to be done with it and not deal with them anymore because they already were not very competent. I just wanted to put it behind me. Huge disappointment and not easy to work with. I will say that it appears they kept my child safe for two weeks and the people running the camp were kind to the kids, so there is that. I suppose it could have been worse but a very expensive waste of...
Read moret is obvious that this school is going downhill. When I contacted them, the admissions officer was on vacation, and no one knew how students could apply or what the fees were. After waiting for the admissions officer to return from vacation, I went to the school to talk to her in person, but she was nowhere to be found. The person attending to me said I should send her an email and that she would respond. I sent two emails that day but received no reply.
The next day, I went back to the school to try to meet with the admissions officer, but once again, she was unavailable. The person at the reception desk told me that I could only send an email. I did, and to this day, I still haven’t received a response.
I feel like they don’t care about the students and have no sense of responsibility in their work. No one except the admissions officer seems to know anything about student admissions. It feels like this is a poorly managed school. Please note that most of the negative reviews are recent, so be cautious when considering this school.
I called their school at least six times and sent the admissions officer no less than four emails. Apart from the first time when she replied that she was on vacation, none of the other emails were responded to, and these were sent after she had returned from her vacation. I also visited their school three times, but I couldn’t find anyone who could answer my questions, and no one could tell me how new students can enroll, the fees, or the class schedule. Therefore, I am no longer considering this school. As for the response from this lady, it is not credible. Even as I am writing this review, she still hasn’t replied to any of my emails, and I have not received any of the so-called phone calls. I am no longer considering this school, as I have already found...
Read moreI arrived in Boston on August 18th in 2016. That was my first time coming to a foreign country. I did travel to many places alone, but I still felt a little scared at that moment. Fortunately, I had a sister here who was studying at Northeast University. She sent me to the campus. Then my new education started in Boston. EF has many students from different countries and we communicate with them all the time. They are kind and helpful. You can learn more about their countries, cultures, their majors and favorite sports. You're gonna have many friends here. Each of teachers here is unique. Chirs looks crazy, he is always energetic in class. Mike is a sophisticated teacher. He has been teaching students here for 5 years, his suggestions could help you fix any problem you encounter here. If you are a freshman who sometimes feels embarrassed to talk with someone, you could find Mike, then you gonna be more comfortable. Eduardo seems like the most strict teacher if you are a new student in his class. He's always in the C level classes. There are some basic rules in his class. Like students are supposed to do their homework seriously, when you talk with your classmates you need look at their face. But when you stay with him longer, you gonna find his suggestions are really helpful for you, and he is not that old fashioned. EF is really busy in the summer. There are so many students in the summer vacation. The lecture hall is gonna be full of students at noon. If you wanna have a nap, here are some suggestions. If you live on campus, you can go back to your room, or you could go to Room 235, probably, there is no class there at noon. There are so many interesting things you have never observed or experienced in the past. So...
