Well, it looks very nice, clean and tranquil at first. Especially once you see and hear the water below. But if you look closely from the bridge as you stroll across down at the other side of the water, you will notice garbage, and maybe a tent or two. With eople living in them! That's nothing compared to the other side within the trees right off of the water you will notice small Trails going into the woods warning do not go in there it is Bowling Greens Tent City and tons and tons of garbage clothes and who knows what I hate to stereotype I just would hate for any children or unbenounced individuals to stumble into that environment without some kind of heads-up about what they will find. I myself went there looking for walking trails as a new Resident to Bowling Green. I had never seen anything like that and most anything it made me sad. It made me wonder what is Bowling Green doing for these people in need that reside in this public park! Don't they have resources besides that many people residing in a place that should feel safe to take our children or are older loved ones or whoever? It appalled me to see the amount of garbage and the thought of what filth that I did not see. I will say no one bothered me I didn't feel any danger but I didn't stick around long but it's just not something a person expects to encounter when they go to a place they think is a getaway from the ugliness and bad feelings that we all live with everywhere else in the world on a daily basis. I was told today on my return to that Park since my first time by a person that is from here of 39 years that that area has been known for a place that Homeless camp for over 10 plus years now, long before that Park was even placed there. So Bowling Green built a park on top of that! Unlike what I originally thought, that the people and garbage all over the place had run over the existing Park !!!WOW, REALLY BG?! I would like to learn who I could find these answers out from and ask if there's anything that can be done for the park and for the people that living there in that...
Read moreScary with the homeless ppl. Could be so nice if it were cleaned up a bit, but mostly doing something about the homeless hanging out both under the bridge and at the top of the walkway. The lights are beautiful at night as you drive by but we've never been until around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon appropriately 3 weeks ago. My husband and I had his 8 year old daughter and 6 year old nephew with us. We walked down to the water to teach the kids how to skip rocks. We passed some odd items such as a burned out loveseat sofa alone with the regular trash you might see like sleeping bags and bags of clothing. We tried to make the most of it, skipped our rocks. The kids wanted to make a YouTube video bc they said it looked like we were outside an abandoned insane asylum that was haunted 👻 As if on cue, a gaunt, dirty, scruffy man stumbled out of the trees, beer in hand and appeared to be looking for something on the ground, never noticing we were there. We quickly made our way back up top where the same 6-8 ppl were sitting in the grass, some sans shoes but bundles in long sleeves and scarves, nervously discussing the fact they hadn't seen so and so in over a week and that's the likely reason the police cruiser had pulled into the parking lot. I wish I were...
Read moreLoved the placards where I could learn a bit more about the importance of the river and the surrounding resources, and enjoyed the scenic Bridge that frames the beautiful river, however there were a few less desirable things about the park. First, another good thing is a fully operational bathroom with running water, but be careful because you are sharing with a population of homeless.
I have been visiting Kentucky for over a month now and this is my first run in with homeless. I thought the South may be immune to this problem, because I didn't experience this in Frankfort, Nashville, Cincinnati or several other medium sized cities.
Still, I was not harassed or bothered by more than the trash and uneasy feeling, but I am sure that pales to how they feel. I have no ill feelings towards the homeless, just...
