Ouch... I'm a fan of speakeasy culture. This underground venue is a beautiful bar worthy of being a bar on it's own merits. Let's stick with that. The speakeasy vibe usually includes the atmospherics of a hideaway. It usually takes some effort to discern where the speakeasy is, like The Campbell Apartment tucked away in New York's Grand Central Station or at least the facade of the hidden hangout, such as AttaBoys in Nashville or The Constitution in Lexington, Kentucky. As far as bars go this is a wonderful place with a great vibe. The Jazz band they had on our night delivered great music you could melt into. For being a basement, this place holds a large group of people. They have bartenders. They don't have the celebrated Mixologists true speakeasys are known to showcase. Look up 'Paris Durant bartender' and see what the expectation actually is. In a speakeasy, you slide in, tell them you're a gin, bourbon or something else drinker and they throw out their specials and usually try to get you to let them take a run at making you something unique. The bartenders here are simply slinging drinks. They do have a specials list and our rotund bartender tried to channel her inner mixologist by serving one of the drinks in a coffee cup. Sadly, she seemed to have more of the drink in the saucer than in the cup. On presentation, she told us speakeasys liked to use coffee cups because during prohibition you weren't supposed to look like you were drinking alcohol. Funny. Not funny. I would have enjoyed all of my drink in the container. As I shared this is a beautiful bar that's in a basement. Bravo. This town needs a place like this. This holiday season it'll be in great demand for seasonal parties. Please note that when a lot of people are there it can be a loud place. Throw in a great jazz band with these folks throwing them back and you'll have a hard time hearing folks at the other end of the table. But, this is a great bar. It's also easy to find. The entrance is well lit and it even has an electric sliding chair for folks who can't manage a handful of steps. Again, this isn't a speakeasy and that is okay. Change the name to Foundation or something else. Heck, make the entrance more obscure and make it difficult to get into and then it'll be more like a speakeasy. Beautiful people, decent service for a bar, good vibe for a bar, poor charade as a speakeasy though.
2AUG Addendum: see owner comment. Shared they had to rush to open and plan on working in the entrance to embrace the nondescript typical speakeasy entrance. Shared that I shouldn't have used 'rotund' when being descriptive about an employee who will benefit from development in the role. Her drink fell short. Fair enough. Surprised that no mention was made about the drink I received. I hold firm in my review that the place is a large beautiful bar located in a basement. It will enjoy great success in Bowling Green. Glad they're an option. I'll check back in few months and see how...
Read more3rd Visit - 5 stars Drinks and appetizers. Asian pork belly and fries. Limited beer selection. Good wine. Love the history of the facility and how it is incorporated into fabric of the restaurant. Thanks Logan and Keaton!
2nd Visit - 4.3 stars Popped in for dinner on a Thursday. Servers and hostesses gave great customer service the entire time. Went with friends and we tried a variety of dishes. The tuna nachos are unique and delicious. The chicken and the lamb were cooked perfectly and were soft and tender, but both could have used more seasoning. The potatoes au gratin was also cooked well. The sweet potatoes were a hit as well as a juicy burger that was plump and juicy. Overall a very well prepared meal that could mostly stand for a bit more seasoning. Large dessert menu so save the room that we did not. Oh.. once again everyone loved the truffle fries-a must have with your meal. The speakeasy area is awesome and also serves bar food with your drinks.
1st visit- 5 stars Beautiful facility inside and out. Staff was top notch. Had the Monti Cristo and some delicious truffle fries. I could probably eat my weight in those fries so they are a must to try. Says shareable sides but you will want your own order. I'll be back for dinner to try those tuna nachos. Hope you all expand the menu more for...
Read moreI’ve been looking forward for months for the grand opening of the Mustang Club. And I was not disappointed at all! Being single, I said at the bar, which was amazing. The barstools were so comfy. I didn’t wanna get up. The bartenders were amazing! Alex was so attentive and informative. I ordered the tomato bisque soup….. delicious. And then order the TMC burger and I was not disappointed. It was a handful. I could hardly put the bun in my mouth and it was delicious and the french fries were golden brown with seasoning on it that was decadent. I will be returning And so excited for a restaurant of this caliber to be in Bowling Green Thank You Mustang...
