A wonderful hands-on (and feet-on) experience for all ages! There are, basically, two rules: 1. If you see it, you may touch it. 2. If it plays, you may play it. And many of the instruments DO still play, so you don't have to stand around and think, "I wonder what that sounds like?" There are plenty of reeds and pipe styles to look at. Also, there are lots of photographs, pieces of equipment that were used to build myriad organs, and signs with historical and descriptive information, so you really get a sense of how this company worked assiduously to bring music into so many homes and houses of worship. A very friendly docent greeted us and even played some music on the pipe organ that is set up so that you can "walk through it" and be enveloped by sound as you look at pipes large and small. We would highly recommend taking time to visit and explore this terrific place! Kudos to the wonderful volunteers who make this...
Read moreWe planned our whole 12 day coast road trip around visiting this museum (see the hours) and it was 100% worth it! Our children, 10 & 8, play piano and were excited to try the organs. We were NOT disappointed! They were able to play every organ in the museum, some are over 100 years old. Though it is on the smaller side, there is a variety of organs available to play. We stayed for 90 minutes!
The docents were a wonderfully sweet couple, very inviting, knowledgeable about the history of Estey Organs and pleased to see our boys happily playing the organs.
Not only were the organs cool to look at, the story of Jacob Estey is definitely an interesting one. He overcame lots of adversity and became a successful entrepreneur. It is the great American success story.
Be sure to check out the list of worker injuries and the settlement amount awarded to them. It was very...
Read moreHIGHLY recommend this museum--it is very interactive whether you play organ/piano or not. There is a $5 entry fee per visitor. The museum is run entirely by volunteers. The museum is in one of the old buildings of the Estey organ factory and they have dozens of organs on display, and you can play all of them! Some of the organs are more than 100 years old! They also have a small, interactive lap organ exhibit. Some organs you have to pump the bellows yourself to play, some organs have electrically powered bellows, and one organ they have on display has space between the organ and the pipes so you can see the mechanics of the organ at work. Fun, interactive, and...
