Nestled in the heart of Brattleboro, Vegan As AF is a bold, flavor-forward gem that instantly wins you over with its inventive, fully plant-based menu. From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere felt fun and welcoming—laid-back yet full of energy, like a hidden spot only locals whisper about but everyone should know.
We ordered the Pra Ram Tofu, Kimchi Fried Rice, and their award-winning chili, and each dish brought its own personality to the table. The Pra Ram Tofu came drenched in a luscious peanut sauce, rich and perfectly balanced with steamed veggies and a tender tofu that soaked up every drop. The Kimchi Fried Rice had a satisfying kick—spicy, tangy, and just the right amount of funk to keep you going back for more.
But the real standout was the chili—a total surprise. It wasn’t your typical smoky, savory bowl; instead, it had this unexpected sweet BBQ flavor that was downright addictive. Each spoonful layered spice, sweetness, and depth in a way that made us pause and smile after every bite.
We left full, happy, and already plotting our return. In fact, we both agreed we’d drive all the way back to Brattleboro just to eat here again. Vegan or not, this place deserves a spot on any food lover’s list.

Read morePlease do not waste your money here. $60 got us two main plates and a small plate (after taxes and fees). We got the jerk tofu and the bbq plate. BBQ plate tasted like cologne generally. Mac and cheese was brutally tasteless and not cheesy or creamy. We have made much better vegan Mac n cheese before. You can use silken tofu blended or mashed with nooch and other flavorings to achieve a creamy Mac n cheese like texture. Jack fruit was not really bbq flavor and way over seasoned. Kale and slaw were not as bad but everything just got worse the more you ate. Jerk tofu tasted like burnt herbs, and did not have the sweet spicy smoky and complex flavors that I would expect in a jerk sauce, I guess they used a rub which was just dry and burnt tasting. Coconut rice and the little carrot slices were probably the most palatable items but the rice did not have any coconut flavor. We were really excited about an all vegan place and ended up sorely disappointed especially having spent so much money to do so. Maybe we ordered the wrong items but I won’t be coming back for a second chance anytime soon. Hopefully not too many non-vegans trying out vegan food coming here because it is not a good representation of the beautiful flavors you can create...
Read moreSo I've been vegan for a little over 15 years, so my pallet is really accustomed to it, and I eat out a lot. The sweet corn tamale bowl was very creamy! I think I would have enjoyed it even more if there was something in the meal that had a little more bite to it though and more of the sauce drizzled around the sides of the bowl which was delicious! My partner enjoyed the Jamaican jerk Tofu bowl (we thought the two might be great together) the Tofu was really awesome. I could eat a whole plate of that Tofu. I think their ice machine filter is broken though and hopefully repaired soon because the water tasted very heavily chlorinated. It definitely affected the flavor of my mixed drink, I did not enjoy either of the drinks (water was undrinkable to me) However, there is an incredibly awesome array of local beers to choose from. It was a rainy day which was too bad because the patio is absolutely lovely! We still really enjoyed the indoors too, despite my pictures it was actually quite busy while we were there. This place...
