Unexpected turn of events
I googled the closest shoe carnival. Google directed me to Brookfield Square. ….. (it’s that time again to buy the entire family shoes for spring.)
As soon as we walked into the mall, my daughter didn’t feel well and needed to go to the bathroom …..
Once going into the bathroom, we recognized 80% of the stalls were dirty or clogged… the only two cleanER stalls didn’t have toilet paper…
I stood outside the filthy bathroom while stating to my daughter, to be careful and how un-pleased It was that the bathroom was in such conditions…..
The cleaning lady, who I later found out was the manager of “cleaning ladies”, had overheard what I said. She went and got two other employees to follow her inside the bathroom…. I stepped out. I overheard the manager speaking very loudly and RUDE. I went back into the bathroom to check on my daughter while she continued to call me a LIAR about the conditions of the bathroom while they were cleaning it up.
Make a long story short this lady would not quit screaming and yelling and took her disruption out into the food court……
I was in shock that she got so upset about something that I’m sure she sees a lot. Considering it was a weekend and there was only a handful of people in the entire mall….. Her yelling demanded a lot of attention from everyone who was trying to enjoy their meal.
I went to a juice station and ask the women where the manager or some form of supervisor was, because the behavior of this employee was unacceptable….. They told me that as far as they know she was the ONLY manager around. Me asking questions to the other vendors seem to enrage the cleaning manager.
Security was brought over, and I WAS told that I am banned from a mall that SEEMS TO already have issues keeping a steady flow of customers….
After that experience, NO SALE or any PRODUCT that mall provides will peak my interests in patronizing them EVER AGAIN…..
There’s no need for a short-term band. I WILL...
Read moreIn the 90s security was hyper-anti-teen so when I was in my 20s as a well dressed ex-mil financial services employee dressed like a polite banker the security guards made it very clear to me on several occasions that my money and I were unwelcome. So I stopped shopping there for a decade or two.
Now a days the only stores still open because of competition from Amazon and big box stores is the food court (which is admittedly pretty cool) and an enormous number of seemingly identical women's clothing stores. Not being a woman the only reason I'd go there in 2016 is the food court. Its interesting that in the 80s as a kid it was a total family experience with stores for everyone.
Also because the stores in the mall are dying, they keep building more and more parking lot outbuilding stores and perimeter stores to fill the empty space. That makes it harder to navigate the lot.
Its interesting to list all the dead mall stores I miss. There used to be a Radio Shack (kind of like a tiny best buy), a Software etc (kind of like Steam but using physical CD disks instead of online), a store that sold cool and expensive leather jackets (mine is still in my closet). I used to get my hair cut at a place across from the food court that was really convenient. Looks like Sears and JCPenny will soon be a memory due to corporate HQ financial problems so there goes 2 of 3 anchor spaces.
When the mall closes I'll miss the food court, that's about it. Its possible with some creative architectural work they could demolish the retail side of the mall and keep the food court, a stand alone food court is an interesting and, as far as I know,...
Read moreThe Brookfield square has taken a nose dive lately. I am aware of the reconstruction but the outdoor maintenance needs much attention. This would include the landscaping, gum and grease on side walks one in which is main entrance. Garbage cans over flowing and cigarette bits laying all over at ever entrance / exit. If you have a smoke free family and trying to come or go you get hit with the smokers and the toxic smoke those areas. The horrible parking and the mze of entrances and exits. If not familiar with the layout trying to navigate in the night hours can be confusing. Inside of mall there are many empty store locations. The Starbucks location is horrible. It adds a ton of pedestrian traffic where the mall walking area constricts. Bathrooms are kept clean. Family bathrooms are offered but needed much attention this visit. Food court still offers a decent selection for any appetite. Restaurants on the east end of mall are great. IF YOU CAN FIND PARKING OR DONT GET HIT BY DRIVERS TRYING TO NAVIGATE THE MAZE I MENTION. The Square still has a ton to offer. Stores they still house have great options for all genders, ages, and ethnic groups. There is parking for handicapped. Restrooms are handicapped friendly. I am one who likes to see a strong presence of Security officers patrolling inside. With the increase in robberies and abductions in news it would be nice to see more of them...
