I can’t help but assume all of these recent positive reviews are friends of ownership/management trying desperately to drown out the negative criticism this miserable landfill deserves. I’ve visited the location twice. On my first visit, my girlfriend and I (an interracial couple) were very conspicuously trailed, and aggressively told to leave by some old hick manning a trash-peddling booth (a more honest name than “Waterfront Flea”.) He felt that I was out of line to touch the “merchandise” on display, but seemingly had no problem with other guests (not surprisingly, white guests) doing the same. If this is the first flea market in the world to operate entirely on blind auctions (for non-whites) I’d appreciate management and ownership to have the self-respect to be upfront about their clear racial bias. Sadly, shame is in short supply at Waterfront Flea Market.
On our second visit, we were again followed around the location for the entirety of our visit, again conspicuously. And why would they not be overt with their racism when there is no repercussion for doing so?
I had contacted management when the first incident took place, and was told to just avoid that individual and the entire area in which they were set up. Not that anything would be done about it, just that I could still give the Waterfront Flea Markey my money as long as I didn’t step on the shadow of irrational, angry white men.
Congrats to Waterfront Flea Market for gather together enough friends and family to artificially inflate their reviews and create the illusion that they are anything other than backwater, garbage peddlers.
If you are a racial minority, or a minority of any kind, do yourselves the favor of steering clear. There are countless places in Maine that will both accept your money and not treat you like a second-class worm. This is not a compromise you need to make, as this location has shown it isn’t accepting or deserving of...
Read moreI never leave reviews but the experience I just had was so bad I have to say something, The new manager of the flea market has done such a great job with space, but was unnecessarily rude. Flat out mean, actually. I’ve been going to this market periodically for five years and I’ve never had such a negative experience with a seller. I tried to haggle a $2 shirt down to $1 and she was incredibly short with me. If you’re going to get that upset when someone tries to haggle you really have no business at a flea market. That’s the whole deal. I put the shirt back out of principle but came back because I will put vintage ahead of my own pride. I tried to compliment her on the space and she kurtly told me she was the manger and then shewed me out of the space. My husband was appalled and I had to stop him from going back in to say something. So disappointing because she has some great stuff. I hope she is just over heated and not genuinely as mean as she seems. Maybe she just should manage from afar and stay off the floor? Still going to go because the rest of the sellers are salt of the earth and the finds are great. If you’re reading this manger, you hurt my feelings with your rudeness and I hope you are kinder to others...
Read moreThis review is not for the entire flea market but for the tiny angry man with a white beard and glasses in the first room (the one filled with mostly junk and no order whatsoever) who ruined our experience today. My husband and I were in the back corner looking at records that were stacked in crates and boxes on top of each other. Of course to look at the records you had to move them in this tiny cramped space. I have over 500 records but was looking for a few to round out the collection. Suddenly this man came over and angrily asked if I planned on moving that crate back we’re I found it. I said yes and mentioned it had been crushing some records underneath. I had picked 2 records and asked him the price he said it wasn’t his booth, maybe 6 dollars, I counter offered with 4 but before he said no way he yelled at my husband to back outta the booth? Why? He was looking for records to buy? Then he just said no sale come back in a few hours??? We left, upset and without records and with a very bad opinion of that angry little man. I suggest heading to the other side of this flea market where a couple of really nice fellas sold me ALOT of...
