A hidden gem! Grace, our waitress was amazing. THE BEST POT STICKERS EVER!! I had to come back and give this place the review it deserves. It's hidden, a tiny plane in the town of Brunswick, Maine. The owner is the chef. She's wonderful, more on her later. When you walk in, you immediately come to a wall that divides the restaurant seating. You're met with s sign asking you to wait to be seated. It's tight, so be prepared for that. The wall decor is a statement. Mixed between wonderful reliefs are blank canvases, inviting you to ponder how everyday, every moment is a new beginning. It's cozy, and it's elegant at the same time. When your seated, Grace is so kind and does not rush you. Then you get to order your food, of which there is a decent variety. The menu includes notes on pronunciation. I can not find the words for how welcoming and inclusive this touch is. My very first bite was of a pork pot sticker. Listen, I've had plenty of them in my life, and I thought there wouldn't be much to say here other than comment on temp-- pretty generic, right? WRONG! I bit in, the juicyness exploded, my eyes lit up and my soul screamed with joy! You can more than taste the love, thought and care put into these. Not your everyday frozen then cooked I've come to expect in restaurants. This was art. This was heart. This was soul food at its best. Even the presentation was on point, and we hadn't even come to the main entree yet! As for the main entree, it was just a good. Just as real. Beyond expectations. I felt nurtured, body, mind and soul. I got to meet the chef. She is truly, genuinely humble and inspiring. She knows everything there is to know about the food. Where it comes from, how it gets there, and what to use to truly nurture your body, which is what food is meant to do. Nothing is over sauced. You can taste and enjoy each piece placed on your palette. She doesn't advertise, and she is the only cook. She does this with love. If you're looking for fresh, immersive meals, this is the place for you. You'll leave filled, but not in the bloated, gross way. Energized and refreshed. Which is how food should be. Heads up- chopsticks are the standard here. Don't let...
Read moreGood Food, Terrible Service. We showed up on a busy Friday evening almost 2 hours before close. Were told it would be a 15 minute wait. We weren't seated until 45 minutes later. 15 of those minutes was watching the patrons at the table that we were seated at try to get someone's attention to get them their check & then pay for it. An additional 10 minutes was spent with us trying to get someone's attention to seat us at the table we could see was open and ready. We finally had to go to the back and let them know we were going to sit. Got our own tableware (napkins, cutlery) & menus.
Once we ordered, food took a bit to get there, but not unbearably long. One of the appetizers wasn't available but the waitress only came back to the table around 10 min after we placed our orders to tell us that.
No-one came back to check on us while we ate. We knew it was getting closer to closing time so were trying to flag someone down to order dessert. We finally did (now a couple minutes before closing), only to be told a few minutes later that the kitchen was closed.
After finishing our meal we waited for a while to get the check, while hearing loud chatter and laughter at the back (there's a bar there). Finally had to go back to ask for and pay the check.
Unfortunate that the experience was so poor because the...
Read moreA few weeks ago, I was battling a bad cold and craving hot pho. I asked my husband to pick some up on his way home (we live about 20 minutes away). I’d only ever dined in before—never had takeout—but when I opened my order, all the sides were missing: the bean sprouts, herbs, everything. I was so bummed.
I called the restaurant to ask if this was normal for takeout, and the woman I spoke with assured me it wasn’t. She apologized profusely and even offered for me to come pick up the missing sides. Since it was already 6:30 and a 40-minute round trip, I had to pass. Then, without hesitation, she told me my next pho was on the house—just come by whenever.
Fast forward to this week, and once again, I’m under the weather (thanks, pre-k germs). My husband stopped by, and true to their word, they honored their promise. The pho was so good, and honestly, it’s rare to find customer service like this anymore. Small gestures like this make such...
