This is a great example of urban design that prioritizes access to green spaces and nature inspired settings. The "splash pad" is so much fun for kids!
The park/splash pad is NOT fenced in. There is abundant access to parking lots, streets, and fast busy intersections. If your child is an eloper, or is young, loves to run away and is not aware of street safety it would be a VERY difficult place to be (see pictures).
There is one accessible area in the "splashpad" that would allow a person using an assistive mobility device to enter via a ramp. It connects to an ankle depth pool area and has access to a bubble fountain (See pictures).
6m-2 years: plenty of shallow water play areas and it is easy to follow kids around without getting drenched. But constant monitoring would be advised as there are large drop offs, currents, and sharp cornered rocks.
3-5 years: your typically developing child who knows their limits, and how to not leave the water areas, can enjoy some freedom of exploration without an adult needing to hover close by constantly.
Parking is accessible and free. Free public restrooms are available but with no accessible automatic door openers and a typical "accessible" stall with a...
Read moreThis place is a jewel! I almost hesitate to write about it for fear that all will flock there. It is like a little oasis situated right in the heart of Burnsville in front of the Ames Center.
I wanted to go to take the kids. Pictures reminded me of a crisp stream. The place did not disappoint. There are so many connecting fountains, picnic tables, benches, grassy areas perfect for a date or family picnic. It's a small area but large. Within it you feel the sense of community, connectedness. My kids and I made a friend as they placed with a child and I talked with his mother, both first timers in amazement...and both working together to keep an eye of the kids with all the connecting fountains.
There is plenty of parking and also public restrooms.right nearby near the Medittarian Cruise cafe. Visit this park, you wont be...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite parks! Great for kids, teens and adults! Fun water features, some concrete + lots of grass seating, as well as tables and benches. There is quite a bit of programming there, like Friday Night Flicks On The Bricks, Music In The Park, etc., and often city celebrations are held there. On sunny, summer days when they anticipate a good turnout, ice cream truck drivers come by, which is always fun for an inexpensive, cool treat! The Ames Center shares the same block as this park, and nearby are some fun shops and restaurants (Ficus & Fig, Jensen's Cafe, JoJo's Rose and Wine, Mediterranean Cruise). It's a perfect park for all! So glad we live close and can come often... I've made over a decade's-worth of memories in this park, and my kids are...
