The Owl Cigar Store has on-street van-accessible parking within half a block, which is convenient. However, there is about a one-inch threshold at the entrance that may be difficult for manual wheelchair users to roll over without assistance. Once inside, I found significant accessibility challenges, particularly in the restrooms. The men's restroom is a single-user space, but it does not meet several ADA accessibility standards. The restroom has a round doorknob, which can be difficult for people with limited hand mobility to operate. The toilet is mounted with its centerline at 19 inches from the wall outside of the ADA-required 16- to 18-inch range—and the toilet seat height is only 15 inches, which is below the required range of 17 to 19 inches, making transfers more difficult and potentially unsafe. The grab bars are mounted too high at 39.5 inches, which reduces their effectiveness in providing leverage or support. Additionally, the paper towels are tucked into a corner that is hard to reach, the mirror is mounted too high to be used from a seated position, and the pedestal sink lacks knee and toe clearance, preventing wheelchair users from getting close enough to use it comfortably. The women’s restroom stall is approximately 33 inches wide by 64 inches deep. While a wheelchair user may be able to close the door for privacy, the configuration makes a safe side transfer onto the toilet impossible due to limited maneuvering space. The dining tables do provide knee clearance, but the bases may interfere with the front of a wheelchair, making it difficult to pull in and dine comfortably. There are numerous barriers that make independent access difficult or impossible for many patrons with disabilities. Addressing these issues would significantly improve the accessibility and inclusivity of this historic...
Read moreI have been going here for years and have enjoyed it up until our most recent visit, 3 weeks ago. We had friends and family visit in from out of state and recommended this place to be really good and fairly decent prices. Our extra large group entered at a decent time, where there was a smaller table of guests and not much more. There was 18 of us. The waitress we had was one of the most insulting people we had to deal with during our visit. She first did not greet us or even smile at any of us. We then asked if we could separate our tickets prior to our orders to make it less complicated for everyone. The waitress said no she could not do this because it's too much for her to have to do and it will "mess up" everyone's orders. We had figured she wanted to wait to seperate checks later. So We decided to go with her plan and everyone started ordering. We were all deciding on malts or sodas etc. They waitress said " why dont you all order waters and make it easy for everyone." Our kids had to sit in booths. She didnt like that our well behaved children were laughing with each other. So there was a few times she thought she could open her big mouth and snap verbally at our kids. The waitress kept pointing at us and our guests. Making us all feel very unwelcome. She never did check in with us to see if we were ok, or if we wanted refills on our drinks. At the end if our meal she wouldn't split the check how we wanted it split. OUR friend from out of town decided to pay this giant check on one bill to appease this cursed woman. That was embarrassing in itself. Boo on...
Read moreHere's my take on this locals secret: We came in, excited about what we had heard, and sat down. The place was a bit unorganized, our table was backed against a pool table but we were stull hopeful. The waitress was nice and took our drink orders. She later brought our drinks but forgot two. We reminded her when she took our food order. For my burger she asked if I wanted everything on it: mayo, mustard, lettuce, pickles and grilled jalapeños. I said yes. That sounded great. We ended up waiting for 45 minutes. Two of our drinks still hadn't arrived. I looked around and no one that came around the same time as us weren't being served either.
Finally, our food arrived. My burger didn't have any of those items and had pickled jalapeños, which i don't like. We reminded the waitress that brought our food ( a different one) of our drinks not arriving. 10 minutes later a man came to check on us and we told him and he brought them right away.
I don't know if this was an off day or constant. The burgers were just OK and very small, especially for their price. The egg was a nice touch. The fries were not great. The shakes were decent. The soda was good. Overall, based on my experience and the taste of the food, I won't be returning and I cant recommend visiting here. D-. Don't believe the hype. I've had better burgers...
