Stepping into the Skyline Theatre in Cañon City feels like stepping into a time machine — and for someone who grew up loving Back to the Future, it was an unexpectedly emotional experience. This beautifully preserved vintage cinema holds a kind of magic you just don’t find in today’s massive multiplexes. With its old marquee lights flickering softly and the classic brick façade, the theater stands as a proud monument to a golden age of cinema.
Inside, the nostalgia continues. The velvet curtains, the original seats, the smell of fresh popcorn — everything whispers stories from decades past. It’s the kind of place that instantly brings you back to childhood movie nights, first dates, and that feeling of wide-eyed wonder when the lights go down and the screen comes alive.
The moment I walked in, I couldn’t help but think of Back to the Future. The theater could have been pulled straight from Hill Valley — the kind of place where George McFly would awkwardly sit in the back row or where Marty would escape to when the world felt a bit too heavy. It’s not just a cinema, it’s a memory capsule.
The Skyline Theatre hasn’t been frozen in time though — it’s been lovingly maintained, and you can tell the staff truly cares about preserving its spirit. The sound system and screen are upgraded, but nothing about the renovation feels forced or artificial. It respects the original ambiance while offering a comfortable experience for today’s audience.
Seeing a movie here isn’t just entertainment — it’s a return to a feeling most of us forgot we missed. I left smiling, not just from the film, but from the feeling of having been part of something timeless. If you’re ever in Cañon City, don’t miss this beautiful slice of...
Read moreOwners have long advertised they show only movies THEY like so it's obviously all about them, not the community or the patrons. Apparently, they expect us to adopt their opinions and have none of our own. This could be why they're closed so much. With the abundance of movies, they open their doors only for those they deem worthy of showing (they want to make our decisions for us) - thanks, but no thanks. A very selfish and small-minded philosophy for running a business. Being made clearly aware of their attitude, I'd be fine with them watching the movies they like all by themselves in their renovated space. Another indicator it's all about them: Cash only so they don't care if customers have to make an extra stop by the ATM first - just so THEY are not inconvenienced in the least to process a debit card. C'mon, join this century. This is ridiculous and an utter embarrassment. I seldom post a review this scathing but this theater has earned mine, in spite of its wonderful old-timey charm. It's a shame - the business management spoils the theater's many great vintage characteristics and good memories...
