This could be a long review so I'll just write the summary first then provide context after
Regular Laptop maintenance went wrong (PC not booting)- went to ubreakifix to have it fixed - $60 "diagnosis" that was wrong (and definitely they did not open and inspect device)- 1 week waiting for parts - called and was told need additional 2 weeks before parts arrive and 3 business days to work on it- said "no thanks" and got my laptop back but still paid for $60 for "not repairable" diagnosis- bought tools from amazon and redid the work i did and got laptop working again within a few hours
here is the full story, during regular maintenance on laptop (clean fans, apply new thermal paste, etc), minor mistakes were done by me that could have been fixed but several screws got stripped/FUBARed. not having the tools or work area (and no time either since I needed laptop working again ASAP) to properly perform the repairs, I did some troubleshooting and was able to confirm power was OK at least (battery&charging and LEDs on laptop showed it). so to avoid causing any more damage to the device, I decided to go to ubreakifix since i assumed they would be better at fixing it than me. I came into the shop, explained in great detail what was done and what area they should focus on and shared some troubleshooting that i already did to save them time. They took the device and performed their "diagnosis" for a few days. They came back telling me the issue was battery and some ports (which i already verified that wasn't the issue). But for the sake of argument, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and told them to continue with their "repairs" which involved them ordering replacement parts (which they said would take 2 days). 2 days later, nothing so I called them and they said another 2 days for parts to arrive. I called again, they told me only half the parts arrived and the other half will arrive 2 weeks from now. I asked if they would at least try their "repair" with the parts they already have or if they at least fixed the stripped screw/thermal paste application I did. they said they would do it once all the parts arrived which was 2 weeks (i.e. 3 weeks in total). I asked if they were sure if that "repair" would fix it and they said it was first step to troubleshoot and find the root cause (3 weeks to troubleshoot what took me an hour to verify). Anyways, told them thanks and took back the old laptop to clone unto a new one. But to be 100% sure laptop was beyond hope, I did purchase some tools from Amazon and tried fixing the issue myself. Before I got started I noticed they HAD NOT EVEN OPENED THE LAPTOP AND INSPECTED THE INSIDES. I knew they had NOT DONE ANYTHING since I had screwed back the bottom cover in a pattern (Diagonals screwed tightly, rest was screwed halfway) and stripped screws still there (they ignored my initial request to fix it first). I continued with my own repairs and carried out the same instructions I gave them and within a few hours my laptop was working again (literally typing this review with it).
I cannot comment on how they perform other repairs, but the general impression I get is this store specializes more with general repair of phones despite WHAT THEY CLAIM OTHERWISE. And their customer service is .... OK depending on who you talk to
But if you have something more complex like PC or Console, I would suggest going somewhere else or looking up Youtube videos and trying to...
Read moreTook in my Pixel 4a 5G to have the screen replaced, which was completed but the screen was not staying connected to the phone, as I was told after the first return visit, some times the glue that google provides isn't strong enough so they use a in house product (this scared me b/c I would assume it would void any warranty I had from Google) after three return visits for the screen to be reattached to the phone, Ethan explained to me that the frame of the phone was bent and the screen would not lay flush on the body of the device. As this was not noticed by any of the techs previously or expressed to me, I have to assume that it is something that happened while in their hands. In addition I experienced a huge scare when after contacting them to find out the status of my phone (did ask them to contact me when it was ready with no contact) they informed me that the phone had been picked up and wasn't there, which couldn't have been as I had not been to the store. A short time later they contacted me and low and behold they had my phone it just wasn't where it normally would have been. I had already contacted 2 of my creditor's to have my cards replaced as I didn't know where they were at or who had procession of them. This was easily the worst of the worst feelings and the over all customer service at this location has frustrated me. When I asked what can be done to fix the device the person just stood there and looked at me with no comment, as a result I took the device and have placed it in it's original box and will not be using it in fear of it falling apart more thanks to...
Read moreBottom line is I am concerned about how shady this place is. Dropped off a working phone with a swollen battery. Asked for the battery to be replaced. I was asked to return in 3 hours. When I returned to pick it up at the quoted time they hadn't even started the repair. Was asked to come back right before closing time. Returned 45 minutes later. That's when they told me that in the process of replacing the phone battery they broke the screen. That's when this encounter went downhill. At first they said they weren't responsible for it. Then they said that they could order the screen and replace it 4-5 days later. Then their "multi-store manager" said that he had called multiple stores and they didn't have any matching parts. Then he said that he could potentially order the screen to be shipped overnight but "no promises". When I asked to speak with his supervisor he said "I'm as high as it goes". All while being rude and raising his voice. Finally he says that "he'll try one more thing" and goes to the back of the store. Comes out a minute later and sets an identical phone to the one they broke on the counter and says "here" while looking visibly frustrated. Whatever version of customer service this was ended there. No offer to swap out the sim card or to set up the phone. No further explanation. Declined to give me a receipt. I was willing to pay for the repair, obviously. But alright, I'll do it myself.
Unpleasant interaction with terrible customer service. I wonder how many people they take...
