I was holding off on writing this review, to give this place a second chance. Since my friends and family were really excited about this location opening up. After some thought, I would rather not return to try out the rest of the rooms, and would rather drive up to LA to try the rooms in that franchise.
My group and I did Pirates Curse on June 19th, it shows as one of their more difficult rooms. The following review doesn't contain any spoilers of the room.
Our first mistake, was following the GPS to the location, but it sent us across the mall and caused us to be late by 6-7 mins (from our booked time).
Upon entering the establishment, the lobby is cool and put well together along with the room. The vibe of the room definitely matches the theme. I wish I could say that about our game master.
As someone that has done over 50 escape rooms, and has even worked in the past in two different escape room establishments. Our game master didn't even allow us to challenge ourselves when asking for help. He would hand feed us the answers.
In the first room, we had figured almost everything out, within the first 10 mins, and when we asked for a hint, he right away gave us the answer to one puzzle. I've never had this happen before this early. Ive always had game masters that would try to guide us to the right answer, and if we still didn't get it, then would give us the full answer. I would've understood, if he sent this hint on accident.
In the second room, again we figured everything out pretty quickly, I clicked the button to check to see if we were on the right track, as I was talking out loud to him a hint popped up. He again hand fed us the full answer. (Hence we had the first 3 letters right). At that point as we were trying to figure out how to open a lock. The game master on his own sent us a clue with the answer that backtracked us to open a door we could've skipped since it had nothing to do with our next steps (we asked about this puzzle at the end, since it confused us)….. by this point, we were done with the 1st and 2nd room within the first 30 mins.
By the time we reached the 3rd room, we all felt pretty much rushed. I was pretty much over it, and when we asked for help on a puzzle, once again he hand fed us the answer.
Overall the room does have potential to be fun and challenging. However if they are going to be hand feeding the answering to the puzzles, they should probably consider changing the difficulties to the rooms.
In the end we expressed how we felt to the game master Ethan and asked him if he was able to hear us throughout the whole experience. He said yes, and when we let him know that one puzzle kept getting stuck and that's the reason I had clicked the hint button. He let us know that it's common, that one of their other new rooms Batman is already having technical difficulties, and Pirates was following. Which hearing this was a bit discouraging. Since Batman was a room we were thinking of coming back to do.
As someone that has done escape rooms in the past, we would've been okay with getting the time docked for being late rather than being rushed in the room. I understand that you beat some and lose some when it comes to escape rooms. That is what makes it fun, and makes you want to come back. We paid for a harder room to be challenged not to be...
Read moreJust had an unbelievable night at Escapology in Carlsbad. If you’re anywhere near here and love a killer escape room, this is the spot. The Batman escape room blew us away—the attention to detail is unbelievable. From the moment the door opened, we were immersed in a moody, Gotham-inspired world with authentic props, slick tech, and a soundtrack that hits all the right tension notes. It felt like stepping into a top-tier production, not just a puzzle room.
The puzzles were clever, thematically on point, and balanced perfectly between teamwork-required and “aha” moments. It never felt gimmicky; every clue connected to the story, weaving a cohesive and thrilling experience. We were all in, leaning into the story, and the room rewarded curiosity with some incredibly satisfying reveals. The pacing was spot on, with just enough suspense to keep us on our toes without tipping into frustration.
Big kudos to the crew—Alex and John were fantastic. They greeted us with genuine enthusiasm, explained the rules clearly, and stepped in with perfectly timed hints when we needed them. Their energy and expertise added a personal touch that made the whole experience even cooler. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and want you to have a great time.
Clean, well-run facility, with friendly staff and a solid overall vibe. Parking was easy, and the location feels convenient without feeling crowded. Whether you’re a Batman superfan, a hardcore escape room addict, or just looking for a fun, immersive challenge, I highly recommend this location and the Batman room.
Huge thanks to Alex and John for an unforgettable experience. We’re already talking about coming back for...
Read moreWe came from out of town for the holiday and decided we wanted to do something as a family that would use each of our strengths and was great for a variety of ages. We have done escape rooms before at home and they are not as well maintained nor does everything work on the first time when figuring it out. This place was clean, well maintained and everything worked. Alex our game master was fantastic and made us all feel welcome and seemed to love her job. Anna our control person Anna was great at giving us clues when we asked or providing guidance when we would have things mostly figured out but just needed a little spotlight. We had a great time doing this! If you get to go, hopefully you get Alex and Anna...
