I think this lounge deserves better reviews than it has received because it packs a bigger punch for what it offers compared to most lounges its size. I came here at 6:45am on a Friday morning. It already was quite crowded. Due to a flight delay, I stayed for three hours and got to see the place between rush periods. The feeling was quite different (in a good way!).
Pros: Dedicated business, kids, sleep areas available away from the main dining room. Most PP lounges do not offer these amenities. The food choices for breakfast constituted a full cold breakfast (toast, jam, cereal) and hot breakfast (omelette, sausage, pancakes, yogurt, coffee). Plenty of alcoholic beverages available, if that’s your thing in the early morning. Staff were quite efficient and working really hard. Dedicated bathrooms for men/women, which helps with efficiency (plenty of lounges have 2-3 shared toilets, which usually makes for long lines).
Cons: Small spaces, so not a lot of room to move when crowded. The food items were spaced apart (cold food on one counter that was self-serve and in plain view; hot food had to be ordered from the bar, but no signage indicating that that’s the procedure). Only one of two Nescafé coffee machines were working and the quality of the coffee wasn’t great. While staff weren’t friendly, per se, they were quite helpful when asked and very hard working.
When the early morning crowd dissipated at 7am, the place was brightly lit with natural light and quite spacious/comfortable. For such a compact space, I really like that they have separate kids and rest areas (unusual for lounges this size). While the food and coffee weren’t great, the quantities were plentiful and they had both hot and cold options—plenty of PP lounges do not have this type of selection.
Overall, I rate the lounge more positively than negatively, 4 stars. Is it a destination unto itself? Absolutely not. But, for its size, access and amenities, it’s definitely a great place to relax for either a short or long layover with or...
Read moreThe Lounge San Juan is a game-changer for anyone traveling through SJU. Let’s face it, airports can be a circus, but this lounge is like finding the calm in the middle of the storm—complete with snacks!
From the moment you step in, it feels like you’ve been upgraded to First Class, even if your ticket says Economy. The seating is comfy, the Wi-Fi actually works (a rarity in airports), and the staff make you feel like you’re part of some secret VIP club.
The snacks and drinks? Perfect for munching while pretending you're super important as you check emails or scroll Instagram. They’ve got coffee to wake you up for those early flights and a little wine to relax you for those long ones. And let’s not forget the air conditioning—it’s like stepping into an oasis after the tropical heat of San Juan.
Need a quiet spot to work or just a cozy corner to nap before your flight? They’ve got you covered. Though I have to admit, the temptation to eat “just one more cookie” might make napping impossible.
The only downside is that you might start wishing your flight gets delayed so you can stay longer. It’s that good. If you’ve got a Priority Pass or you’re willing to splurge a little, this lounge is 100% worth it. Just be careful not to get too comfortable—you might forget you have a...
Read moreInstead of a buffet, the lounge offers just one meal option - in our case a disappointing plate of mixed rice and beans with a sparse sprinkle of beans and some pork. Given the simplicity of the meal, the excessive wait time was perplexing. Particularly since it seemed as if they were microwaving each dish one by one.
The waiting game stretched over 30 minutes for two plates of food and an additional 10 minutes for a third one. With our flight time approaching, we couldn't afford to wait any longer, especially for a meal that seemed more of an afterthought than a thoughtfully prepared dish. The absence of any vegetarian options or, frankly, any choice at all, is a glaring oversight.
While the lounge maintained a clean environment, it did little to salvage the situation. We ended up leaving with people without food - the vegetarian and one that couldn’t wait any longer to get their food. 2 out of 5 people left hungry and we all had to rushed to our gate.
If you're passing through SJU and considering the lounge for a pre-flight meal, you might want to reconsider. The wait is long, there are no meal alternatives and the food...
