TL;DR at end.
My best friend was in the hospital and I wanted to buy some lighthearted books to relieve his boredom over the next week.
The books also needed to be fairly short, since I would be holding the book up for him to see.
I’m not into comics, but I did know his favorite characters. I’d seen enough movies with him to know Batman was unlikely to have any plot lines that were hopeful or uplifting.
Someone recommended I stop by Ultimate Comics.
Honestly, when I came in I just wanted to check something important off my list on the way to the hospital.
I was exhausted, stressed, hungry and didn’t have a clue how I was going to choose what to buy.
The red-haired employee who approached offering her assistance was absolutely stellar. I wish I had asked her name, as she deserves kudos.
I took a few minutes to explain my friend’s situation of long, boring days. I let her know how his limited neck movement would affect the weight/size of my choices.
She was very patient and kindly asked a few relevant questions about my buddy’s likes/dislikes.
I was amazed at how well she knows her stock! I wonder if she is psychic and absorbs their stories whilst unboxing new arrivals.
I followed her as she walked with purpose. With each of her recommendations, she shared why she thought that particular volume would be good with a quick summary of the plot and mood.
After I’d selected three volumes based on her guidance, the young lady let me know they had a buy 3 get 1 free policy (sale?) , so I walked out with a $13 comic gratis.
Yes, I did end up spending (quite a bit) more than I anticipated.
Yet I was quite happy to do so.
I consider the extra as payment for her exemplary customer service, her mystical depth of knowledge and the confidence of feeling I had chosen just right.
It would have been foolish to save $20, but be unsure if I had bought items he would actually like.
One does not need to be a comic book fan to shop here.
One just needs to be shopping for someone who IS a fan - and this young lady will steer you right.
This is 100% the most satisfactory experience I’ve had at a shop in years.
This young lady showed enthusiasm; she sincerely shared my desire to help make my friend’s hospital stay less miserable.
My interaction with her greatly relieved some of the stress I was feeling when I walked in.
TL;DR I recommend this place without hesitation, based on the young lady who assisted me.
You don’t have to be a reader of comics to shop here.
If you need a knowledgeable guide to pick a fitting gift for the comic lover in your life, the red-haired young employee will make it an easy experience.
Her intelligence and Brobdingnagian knowledge of her merchandise will have you in and out quickly, confident in your...
Read moreI was a fan of Ultimate Comics until today. I recently lost a brother, a niece, 2 cousins and an Aunt all in the span of 6 weeks. I’ve had to travel quite extensively since the beginning of November to just after Christmas. So it’s been rough both emotionally and mentally.
So today was a good day where I felt like myself in a long time. I decided to take a day for myself to get out and seize the day. Got a massage some god food and then stop and see what was new at Ultimate Comics. After looking around for a while it was time to go , so I went to check my box (856) to see what was in there. The manager/owner assisted me with checking out.
I mentioned to him that I hadn’t been in since November. I looked at the 10 comics and chose 4. He immediately got an attitude due to the number of I decided not to get. He went on to chastise me about the box policy and was rather rude about it.
I tried to explain but he didn’t let me get a word in edgewise. He wanted to make sure that I throughly understood his policy and began to going through my subscriptions. I let him know that I understood and just wanted the 4 comics I chose. While all this was going on others around us gave the look like really dude we get it but there was a better way to handle this.
In my mind I wanted to let him know that he was rude AF but just reiterated that I understood. He went on to let me know that he could lose money if I didn’t buy what was in my box and that I was lucky that the comics I had in my box were hot sellers and that they would be sold.
He worried more about the box policy than providing customer service. More about being right and how dare you customer not buy all the comics in your box.
Just know it’ll be awhile before I step foot...
Read moreWhen I think about comics my first thought tends to be “Is Grace working today?” At ultimate comics off Buck Jones rd near the Thai place is a great comic store. It’s just the right size and always has great stuff in stock. That’s not why I go there though. I go because Grace is working. Have you ever found yourself asking what’s new or different out there? Maybe you just want something like Harley Quinn, or Batman? Maybe your Significant Person or kid is interested in comics? Well Grace can help. She’ll give you several choices, then alternatives to those choices, then about 5 more recommendations, plus a chat about other cool authors or art styles. Hearing her talk about them with such enthusiasm you can’t help but be wrapped up in the wonder. She’s helped me find things I would never have read on my own. Titles such as Luna, Love everlasting, poison ivy, Human Target, etc. Authors too like Tom King. Due to Graces recommendation I’m always on the lookout for anything written by Mr King and I would of missed that without her help. If you have never gotten a comic or your kids expressed interest she’s worth a chat. There a whole lot more out there than spider man.
My wife will sometimes say, “you haven’t got comics in awhile is Grace working today?” Yes I read comics and have a wife who’s fine with it, dare to...
