Having struggled for months to find something descent to do in this small town for free for almost a year living here, I decided to give this place a shot. It’s gotten so bad that I tried something I normally have ZERO interest in, just for the sake of something to do. This was the most awkward museum visit ever for me. I’m not a major visual arts person, much more performing arts, but I have still been to several museums in my life and this one was horrible. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing or something else, but I felt like I wasn’t allowed to talk above much more than whisper in there and there wasn’t a ton to actually look at.
The majority of the art that WAS there was based on political lies and indoctrination about COVID, Black Lives Matters, Israel and Palestine, LGBTQ extremism and other dishonest, immature, childish whiny agendas. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of friends who have very different perspectives than I do about these matters and they are good people, but this museum seems to deliberately look for lazy, dishonest representation of political messages in their art. There’s little else here other than that nonsense. I hear they switch things out every few months, so maybe I just went here at a bad time, but what they had up when my wife and I went certainly screams “ignorant” and...
Read moreMy mom wasn’t allowed to bring in her service dog, who has been trained for PTSD, medical migraines and anxiety, because they considered that emotional support and not service dog trained abilities. Yes, she is there for emotional support BUT she is a service dog, not just an ESA. We put her in a carrier stroller just to be more safe, and we’re told she wasn’t allowed in. We were asked many questions regarding her service, and which were not in the legal bounds of questions for service dogs according to the ADA. My mother, who has our dog for her PTSD, left the building so could go through the corset exhibit. I was actually disappointed with the lack of research done, and how tight lacing is still considered to be the reason corsets are no longer used day to day, which is very not correct, along with the utter disregard for why the bra was invented and taken more to than a corset. I was coming to SUU to see if I wanted to attend, but after the way they treated my mom, I feel uncomfortable going in again. I will say, that the corsets were beautiful however I was hoping for more historical outfits, but there’s only so much a small...
Read moreMy family and I had a tremendous time at the SUMA for the first time. It happened to be their two-year-anniversary celebration, which made it even better. We got to see the James Surls sculptural exhibit and take part in the celebratory activities, like face painting, cookie-eating, and pin-the-tail-on-the-fox! The space was large and inviting, with beautiful views from the windows. The staff was very friendly and enthusiastic, and the exhibit itself was interactive and...
