College Square Mall is currently a tragedy! It used to be a thriving indoor mall filled with stores of all kinds, anchored by large department stores, and it featured a wonderful food court with seating for friends to meet. It was great to be able to park once and stay inside to complete one's shopping without needing to walk outside in thd summer or winter elements or needing to move the car from one strip mall to another! It was especially handicapped accessible for those of us using assisting devices or wheelchairs.
Now...College Square Mall is only a sad collection of completely empty stores with the front display windows and doors shuddered. An Ashley Furniture store and a Von Mauer store remain open with no customers. The food court has an Indian, a Chinese and an Italian pizzeria, each with signs posted to call different phone numbers if one wants to pick up food. HuHot remains open for business at the end of the food court with access from the outside.
The development of strip malls around the "new" Walmart and Target stores south of Cedar Falls has left this huge empty mall and many vacant strip malls on University Avenue which had been the pulse for the city. I hope College Square has learned from the mistakes of Crossroads Mall in trying to keep business costs down so more space is occupied. What good does it do to have a mall if most of the stores are empty? Come on Crossroads learn from your mistakes & lower the rent to attract more businesses. I hope College Square will keep their...
Read moreMy experience centered around dealing with your rounds and finding Von Maur which nothing told me or indicated its where abouts was in the back.
I am a Von Maur customer. I have lived closer to the Cedar Rapids location. And Des Moines is becoming a destination due to family.
The customer service at Von Maur was stellar as always.
My only change would be better signage and update GPS.
I am a new to the College Square Mall after living else where. I use to shop there. I do not remember the hassle.
I plan to return. And see how I can make getting around less time consuming. Nice to...
