To be completely clear this is a beautiful venue, excellent acoustics an I would say 99% wonderful employees/volunteers. I almost never have poor encounters with people working in customer service that I take personally, even rarely experiences so bad I would actually take the time to type out a review but Anna, your volunteer working Portal D at the Weird Al show, should never be allowed to volunteer there again. I paid over $270 to see an artist I've loved over 20 years, so as I walk in I grab a white-claw and head to my door. At first the usher wasn't there, which is totally understandable, she was helping another person to their seat. I wait for a second and head back to the door, I reach for it with the same hand as my drink as the usher barrels through the other side, hitting my hand with the door so hard that my full drink explodes up, onto my head, my glasses, my face, and drenching my shirt. I'm standing there with white-claw dripping down my glasses and she can't even be bothered to say sorry. I told her she needed to buy me a new drink and she just laughed and asked for me seat number. I told her my seat number, but reiterated that she needed to buy me a new drink first. That's when she got an attitude with the person she poured a drink all over and told me that since she works here she doesn't have to pay for anything of mine. I agreed and asked her if she could come tell the bartender that I need a new drink and she said absolutely not because she had to usher people to their seats. So I have to walk back down to the bar, covered in liquid and ask for a new drink which they were very kind about giving me. After the break between the opening act and the main act I walked over to what seemed to be the customer service counter where guess what - I see Anna using her hands to show the motion of a drink spilling on someones face as she's telling a story to the management. I interrupt whatever version she was giving to tell the actual story and was literally told that "she was a volunteer and people make mistakes" She didn't take me to the wrong seat, she didn't get distracted and wander off, those are mistakes, she caused my drink to pour all over me then refused to even so much as say sorry or help me get a new drink. I understand she is a volunteer, and you may be hurting for volunteers, but she is a problem you're going to have to deal with sooner or later. If there had been a child on the other side of the door when she blasted it open the center would have an entirely different situation on...
Read moreThe sound at the 8/4 Chandler Arizona Hotel California concert was horrible. The bass was so loud that it was hard to hear the other instruments and the vocals. During intermission, I complained to the facility assistant manager who was on duty. She said it was the bands fault. The auditorium had nothing to do with the sound system. Her solution was to offer ear plugs and she said she would talk to the band about it. I told her again that the problem was not that the overall sound was too loud, but that the bass level was too high. I am not sure if she spoke to the band during the intermission, but the second half had the sound of everything turned up, including the bass. So again, the bass was too strong and overpowered everything else. The only songs that evening with decent sound were Seven Bridges Road and Desperado because they had very few, if any, instruments playing and no one was on bass. If the band was really in charge of the sound, they should fire their sound person. They don't know what they are doing!!! I have been to other musical performances at the Chandler Center for the Arts and the sound was excellent.
The sound definitely effected the quality of the performance. No one was dancing at their seats!! I saw Eagles Tribute bands in Branson, MO; Gilbert, AZ; and ironically at the Chandler Center for the Arts. At each of those shows, it was obvious that people were enjoying the performance. They stood and danced through many of the songs. This show had people not returning after the intermission and leaving throughout the second half. The Chandler show was called Take It Easy On Me: Music of the 70's. There was probably a lot of overlap in the audiences of the two shows if my group of 13 was any indication. That show had...
Read moreHad a great time at the Apocalyptica concert last night. Spent the extra money on the VIP meet and greet which could have been a little more VIP had the Theatre opened the snack bar early for drinks and food for the people that paid really good money to be there early to meet the band. Maybe they just don't know how to handle a crowd as diverse as this one having metal band lovers and symphony string lovers in the same crowd. The concert was spectacular. The sound of the show was amazing which I wasn't expecting. The staff was nice and friendly until the general manager came out of her office and into the lobby. There she met with one of Chandlers finest policemen and gave him a rundown on what she expected. I was sitting with my wife on the padded seats by the window just kinda listening to what they were saying. It totally shocked me what came out of her mouth. She said to the officer and several people that worked there that "I can't stand this kind of music and I really can't stand these kind of people"! I couldn't believe I was hearing that from the leader and manager of a publicly funded theatre. This woman really has no idea the type of people that were in her building last night. There were doctors, businessmen, moms, dads, kids and hard working people that paid good money to see an amazing band from Finland! Thank you Apocalyptica for an amazing show and the City of Chandler for getting such a rare act. But to me the night was ruined by the comments of the general manager. Here is her information Michelle Mac Lennan, General Manager, 480- 782-2683, Michelle.Maclennan@chandleraz. gov. Please let her know that her comments and attitude are not what we want in people with leadership in...
