This is a very nice park, so if you are going for the free playground equipment and visiting the ducks, I'd give it a 5. Or possibly a 4. The water pad was turned off. And the bathroom closest to the train station was out of order on our visit. It's quite a hike across the park to reach the second bathroom, at least for young children.
But don't plan on enjoying the train or the merry-go-round, at least not on the weekends. I've always thought the tickets for the train and merry-go-round were a poor value for cost, but this last visit we ended up not even being able to use our tickets.
The merry-go-round was being repaired the whole time we were there, and the train didn't have one of it's carts. Despite being short one cart, the train was still only running every thirty minutes. No attempt was made to add extra runs to make up for the missing cart or accomodate the large crowd.
Nor were we told, upon purchasing the tickets, that we would likely have to wait ninety minutes for a train ride and that the merry-go-round was broken. We had the pleasure of discovering these facts on our own.
After waiting in line for nearly an hour (two train trips) and missing a chance to ride once again on the third attempt, we asked for a refund. We were told they don't give refunds under any circumstances. Not even in this situation where none of their equipment was working properly. So all we can do is try to come back another day and hope there are fewer people.
Also, a somewhat amusing note. They've got some coin operated electric vehicles sitting next to the train line that might have been useful for alleviating the children's boredom while waiting, but again, in the age of plastic and digital pay methods, the vehicles only operated on quarters. Given the overall condition of the other equipment, the cars were likely broken as well, but we shall never know since no one in the crowd was carrying change.
I recommend the park. It's really very nice. But I also recommend avoiding the park's paid amenities unless you ask in advance if everything is working, and how long of a wait to expect before you can actually ride a train or a merry-go-round horse . The attendant at the ticket counter won't volunteer any of this important...
Read moreNot a great experience to say the least. Drove specifically to ride the train, we arrived a few minutes after the first ride began. Bought tickets (quite expensive for a short train ride), waited in line with 4 young kids and as the train was coming back into the station it literally derailed off the track and almost tipped over. Train was shut down for the rest of the day (apparently this it not the first time this has happened).
Proceeded to the let the kids play on the playground after one trip down the slide both of our kids slid into human feces that was smeared all over the slide. Absolutely disgusting. We told the staff (which was literally 2 people working the entire park, running the train, selling tickets, now attempting to fix the train) and they didn’t seem to care that there was human feces all over the slide that kids were playing on.
Needless to say we will...
Read moreMy son is 2 and LOVES trains so we've been here many times and it keeps getting worse. The train & carousel are poorly run and in very bad need of repair. I've only ever seen teenagers working there. They seem like nice enough kids but I worry about safety. The carousel is falling apart, the train breaks down (try making a toddler wait 20 minutes to get on a train only to have to get off because it won't start! So dissapointing). Everything is way overpriced ($4.50 per train ride and no kids are free) and clearly the profit does not go towards maintenance or improvements. Even the coin operated rides are crumbling. Desert Breeze park itself (presumably run by the city) is lovely! The playground and splash pad are great. But if your looking for a train ride, save yourself some money and aggrevation and go to McCormick Stillman or Arizona...
